Basics Of Motivation And
Hierarchy Of Needs
Motivation● Two ways to get the work done - Compulsion
and Motivation
● Motivation is a better way because it ensures
good performance and high productivity
● It directs our behaviour in the pursuit of our
goals
● It is the reason why people choose to do or not
do things
Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs
Pros and Cons Of Hierarchy Of Needs
Pros -
● It helps to focus on human behaviour.
● It leads to better productivity and enhances team
performance.
Cons -
● Lack of a rigid hierarchical structure. The
hierarchy levels may differ from person to
person.
● It is difficult to test this theory empirically
● Another problem with it is a lack of direct
cause and effect relationship.
● It may not apply at all times and at all places.
How can it be applied in the organisation
● Managers can identify the common needs of employees
and organisation and then motivate them towards the
common goals.
● Organisations should interact with employees. It should
be a two way interaction.
● Organisations should make efforts to turn the offices
into an exciting workplace.
● Organisations should take care of safety and other
needs of employees.
● Organisations should provide extracurricular
activities for the employees like clubs and
weekend trips.
● Organisations should consist a counsellor so
as to listen to the employees whenever
needed.
Thankyou
