2. Photosho
p■ The programme Photoshop was used to create the front cover of ‘Tune-in’ magazine.
Photoshop is usually used when creating things such as front covers, posters etc. with
Photoshop, I feel as if I learned a lot of knowledge, for example, editing the fonts and
adding shadows and many other effects. Having learned this and implemented it into my
magazine, I feel confident that it can stand out and catch the audience’s eyes.
■ Additionally, Photoshop has taught me how to get rid of any flaws from the images I’ve
taken, by using the different types of tools. I was also available to get rid of the unnecessary
background to show just the cover star alone, and I did this by using the magic wand and
the rubber tool.
■ Photoshop also taught me how to keep my cover lines aligned and structured, so that it can
look more professional and organised when the reader has the magazine. The tool that
helped me in this area was the ruler and grid tool, which helped me organise my cover
lines. Furthermore I learnt how to change the colour of the text by using the eyedropper
tool.
3. ■ InDesign was used to create two parts of my magazine, which were, the contents page
and also the double page spread (DPS).With the use of InDesign I learnt how to
organise layers as a way of repositioning different texts and bringing certain features
of the magazine to the front. Moreover, InDesign allowed for me to explore different
tools and effects that I could use to enhance the visuals. For example I learned how to
redefine the images on the magazine to make sure that they are not blurry or
pixelated.Additionally, InDesign showed me how to create text boxes and it also
allowed for me to have interesting designs.

4. ■ Illustrator was used to create the masthead for my magazine. This was the first time I
have used the programme adobe illustrator and I was impressed on how creative you
can get when creating a masthead. My class and I had an induction for this programme
and we learnt how to use all the different tools and what their use is. Illustrator
allowed for me to get creative with my masthead to try and accomplish a unique
looking text that will match the genre I have chosen for my music magazine. I learnt
how to change the angle of the text, how to change the colour of the text to make it
suitable to the genre I’ve chosen etc. Having this sort of freedom when creating a
masthead allowed me to create what I wanted to.

5. ■ I have never used blogger in the past, however I found it very easy to learn all the
things required to use blogger fairly quickly. Some of the things I learnt were how to
upload images and also how to upload videos. Moreover, I learnt how to embed Prezi
presentations and also my time toast production schedule, which were both key to
presenting my work in a neat and organised manner to try and accomplish my work in
time for deadlines.

6. ■ Prezi has allowed for me to present my ideas and my magazine in a nice creative and
visual manner. Having a nice flow to a presentation, made introducing my magazine
look a lot more interesting appealing for when I presented my magazine to my class.
Additionally, it allowed me to plan my magazine and it also taught me that including
images with text helps as a way to explain what you are trying to deliver.
7. ■ Having used time toast proved to be beneficial in the process of creating my
magazine. It allowed for me to keep on top of my work and meeting my coursework
deadlines, removing the risk of having something overdue.Time toast also had a
feature which I learned about that allows you to alter your schedule which was
beneficial to my progress in my coursework and also in the development of my
magazine. This is because if I had finished one part of my magazine I can change the
schedule to give me more time on working on another part of my magazine.
8. ■ In another class induction we were all introduced to the photography room where
there was all the professional equipment that was required for a magazine photo-
shoot. Here we learned about various equipment such as the DSLR camera which was
the Nikon D7000. During this induction we learnt about all the technical terms such as
3 point lighting, saturation, white balance, exposure, focus etc.
■ When it came to me performing the photo-shoot, I felt confident in my ability to take
some high quality images to include on my magazine. After experimenting with the
different light levels from the light boxes I managed to find the lighting that I thought
was suitable to my genre.
