2. ■ Throughout the construction process of my magazine, I have
learnt about different forms of technology ranging from
computer soft-wears such as ‘Photoshop’ and equipment like
‘cameras’ and many more.
■ The technologies I have used are similar to the ones I used
when making my first draft, however I have gained more
knowledge of these which have helped me to improve my
magazine.
3. Photoshop
■ Photoshop was a key piece of technology used during the process of my
magazine.
■ Prior to making my magazine, during the draft stage, I had very little
knowledge of Photoshop. This was difficult to begin with as I wasn’t able to
function the program properly before I was taught the basics.
■ I found that this particular soft-wear made it easier to layer images and text
on to my magazine as they are placed cleanly and you are able to set specific
measurements for them; making it more professional. This was particularly
handy when forming my boarder and lining up my text on my double page
spread as it had to be measured out so all my columns were the same.
Similarly, it helped with lining up my images to the text and other headings on
the pages.
■ Tools such as the colour matcher enabled me to match the web address of
‘Young Chasers’ to Connor’s t-shirt so my double page spread had a slight
change in colour.
4. Cameras & Lighting Boxes
■ I hadn’t had much experience in taking pictures before I did my first draft. A selection
of test shots enabled me to practice in making sure I used different angles and shots to
give myself a variety of experience. I improved from taking my first test shots to my
second bunch as I was able to properly place my stars and capture all of them instead
of accidently chopping off their hair or arms. This made my images look more
professional and well put together. The camera I used was a Nikon D3200 which made
my photos look a lot more professional.
■ I also used three lighting boxes to experiment with different lighting styles. This was
helpful as I was able to prevent any shadows which may occur while using the flash.
The lighting made my images more aesthetically pleasing as they were clean and
looked professional.
5. Programs &Websites
■ During this process I used programs such as PowerPoint and word which I used to
write my article on and edit photos. I used PowerPoint to edit my images as my images
used a saturation of 66% and temperature of 5900k. I liked the darkened aesthetic of
this as it didn’t fully wash out the colours within the images, but darkened them
enough to make them look edgy.
■ I used the website Blogger to post updates of my magazine on and various related
posts. This enabled myself and others to keep up to date with my work and progress.
6. Programs &Websites
■ I also used websites such as Scribd and Slideshare which has helped me to showcase
work written onWord and PowerPoint as I am able to embed them onto my blog. This
was helpful as at the beginning I didn’t know how to show work if it was on a
document rather than straight onto a blog post so now I am able to apply this
knowledge for other things.
I used http://www.uktribes.com/ to decide
which audience my magazine would be
aimed at.This has enabled me to learn
more about different social groups and
the stereotypes within them.
I used Prezi andAnimato which gave me a
different way of presenting my work. This
has helped me to find new ways of
presenting work but in a fun and different
way.
