light emitted when a ‘standard’
candle called a Candela lights the
surface of a sphere of 1M radius of
1 Steradian angle:
• 1 Lux is the resulting illumination
at the surface.
(There are 4 П Steradians in a sphere thus a

80W of power, the total amount of
light emitted is 12.57 Lumens:
• Efficacy of a candle is about:
12.57/80 = 0.16 Lm/W !

important.
• Low Pressure Sodium has the highest efficacy, but the yellow color is not
acceptable for general lighting!

683 Lm/W. ( A source at 683 Lm/W produces no heat or ultra violet radiation only visible spectrum)
• Light Sources produce UV and IR radiation which is not useful for lighting

technologies which led to the following negative conclusions:
Available LED Modules rely on high density COB (Chip On Board) manufacturing technology
which concentrates a lot of power in a small area – creating hot-spots.
Thermal management is left to the user which requires in-depth engineering skills and LED
characteristic knowledge which is not available from the manufacturer.
There are hundreds of LED chip technologies available, each with conflicting parameters; each

Leading western manufacturers do not offer the best LED chips on the market!
