SLAB SEQUENCE Michael Sayre
GETTING STARTED
See this – unimproved surface Think/Do this:
Receive Start from office.
 Prepare paperwork.
Notify Tractor.
 Lot scrap. Sometimes a lot prep will be
required.
Move – OR – Order lumber.
 If ordering new lumber; a general
estimate (per house) of:
 2”x4”= 400’
 2”x6”= 400’
 2”x12” = 200’
 Try to re-use old (wreaked) lumber about
3 or 4 times.
LOT SCRAP
Lot scrape - complete Think/Do This:
Notify Form-Setter.
FORM SET
Form Think/Do This:
Order dirt/sand.
 Dummy Order = Give supplier address
AND a quantity.
Measure form.
 Best time to measure because ground
is level.
Have form-setter construct
entrance and leave it nearby.
DIRT - DELIVERY
All dirt loads delivered. Think/Do This:
Notify tractor.
 Schedule knockdown.
DIRT - KNOCKDOWN
Knockdown - complete Think/Do This:
Notify builder.
Builder will schedule plumbing.
Receive survey from builder.
Prepare paperwork, if not already
started.
Optional: Water lot.
 Ground gets hard while being heated
by the sun. This makes it easier for the
diggers to work later.
PLUMBING – INSTALL
All plumbing installed inside of
form. (Not pictured: plumbing outside of form.)
Think/Do This:
Notify Make-Up crew.
Release wind-straps.
Order cable and steel.
Prepare paperwork, if not already
started.
Get materials to site: poly,
pocket formers, catheads,
mastic.
MAKE-UP: THE PROCESS
Beam Installation Think/Do This:
Crew is digging beams to
specifications.
Know beam depth and width;
communicate this to crew.
 Mark/Highlight Foundation Plans is an
excellent method.
MAKE-UP: THE PROCESS
Grade Installation Think/Do This:
Crew is cleaning up pads.
Crew will install grade to porch,
patio, and/or garage areas.
 Double-check graded areas against
Foundation Plan.
MAKE-UP: THE PROCESS
Think/Do This:
Crew will cover pads with poly
and tape.
Crew will run cables (tendons) at
prescribed intervals.
Crew will coat plumbing with
mastic.
Crew will apply catheads to
tendons.
SLAB - COMPLETE
Final Product – Poured Slab Think/Do This:
Fill out Concrete Report.
 Turn-in next day before 10 am.
Complete Make-Up Sheet.
 Turn-in on Mondays before 10 am.
