Media Question 2
1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
task?
2. Aim

To create 3 products that would help promote a new artist: a
music video, an album advertisement and a digipack.
To do this is researched things such as target audience and
popular genres.
I tried to use similar themes throughout the creation of these
products. Each picture or video clip has some link to another
one.
My theme is quite juxtaposed so I had to try and incorporate
contrasting ideas whilst still trying to maintain continuity within
all of the products which I think I managed to do quite well.
3. Digipack
CD: The actual CD cover is a pair of red lips, which is featured in the music
video. It is also the image used on the front cover of the CD case. This
helped to tie in the two products well due to the continuity within the two
pictures.
Digipack BACK: For the back I chose an image that was quite dark and
almost 'indie'. It featured the artist stood against a brick wall wearing all
black with a neutral expression. This tied in well with some of the clips I used
for my green screen, which were of the artist in the same outfit and with the
same neutral expression.
Digipack FRONT: For the front I used the same image of the red lips I had
already used for the CD. I think this combined my products well as this look
is also featured in the music video heavily.
Digipack INSIDE: Inside the case I decided to use the image of a tiara which
was lighted quite darkly, with the lyrics of the song written over it in scrawly
black writing. I think that this was quite effective in combining my products as
it ties in with the opposite theme to the darker side which was quite
princessy and pink. This style is featured both in my music video and as the
main image for my magazine advert. Also, the darker lighting and lyrics tie it
in well with the rest of the digipack, since most of the images are a little
darker or less happy.

The theme of unhappiness or lonliness rins heavily throughout
all of my products and this is even shown through the 'happier'
sides of the products. For this is chose to use the image of the
artist from the back, wearing a prom/princess style dress and
an expressionless face, while facing to the side. This connoted
that she may be lost or confused, instead of assuming that she
is a happy character although that is what her style would
suggest. I find that this ties in very well with my other products
as all of them contain connotations of lost youth and being
confused as a teenager, which is what I have attempted to
portray through the use of the different juxtaposed characters.
5. Music Video
LIGHTING: This was one of the aspects I considered to be the most
important in my video, as I wanted the lights to connote almost a secretive
feel, of something that should be hidden, just like the feelings of the artists
were in the song.
BODY LANGUAGE: I attempted to portray different things for each
character. For example, the 'happy' character sings very openly, with relaxed
shoulders and a happy facial expression throughout. There is a fair amount
of realxed swaying etc. in the video. However, the 'Dark' character is quite
stiff, with an almost still pose and a pained expression used throughout.
PROPS: There is a sharp knife that is featured in the video, which is pulled
across the artists lips. This could connote suicidal feelings. There is also the
use of a tiara, pink dress, high heel shoes and so on which are heavy
connoters for the 'princess' side of the narrative.
6. Music Video
SHOTS: I attempted to use varying speeds of shot changes, which is a
common convention of music videos. For example, I used more variety of
shots in the chorus which meant that the shots changed quicker in this
section.
7. Conclusion
In conclusion, I think that my products tie in well
with each other. Although I have not used the
most conventional method of portraying a md
connecting my products to each other I think
that they have a uniqueness to them which
makes them stand out.
My products include the story, or feelings, of a
girl who is suffering from some from conflicting
feelings while growing up. I wanted the
products to embody those feelings seperately
whilst also linking as one toghether.
