4. SYNERGY
In our music video, we used multiple lens flares throughout, we did this
because we wanted to represent the light in the girls life trying to
constantly break through into her existence, yet not being able to
completely reach. This could link to the dark colours, such as green, that
were used throughout the video as when the boys seen, lens flares and
lights are seen trying to flicker through, whereas, when we’re with the girl
and the box, it’s quite dark. This represent the sense of mystery we
wanted to present throughout our work. This is shown throughout all of
our work, the light blurred and flickering with most of the focus is draw to
the green dark tone of nature as a last source of life, before her ultimate
death.
5. COMMON THEMES
Throughout our CD Cover, Magazine Avert and Music Video we have a constant
dark tone with the colour green being showed through all of our work. We used
the idea of Green and forest for our video to show a sense of travel towards her
end, As she follows a trail that eventually leads to the Tree, Which has an sense
of importance to there relationship that is left a mystery for the viewer. Our
products also show a common theme of the use of metaphors throughout our
work, For example the Magazine Advert and CD Cover which shows our front
cover represents an adventure through a gate, this can be implied to represent an
broken heart, death of a loved one and guilt.
6. Also our inside Cover is an close up image of a tree which has a clear link to our music video
"She Lays Down" whilst the Magazine Advert and CD Cover shows our Album song
"Gatekeeper". Moreover, this use of metaphor is representing how important something so
small and taken for granted can actually effect you immensely. We decided to use dark tones
throughout our video to represent the dark undertone of the narration and the element of
Indie giving it that low budget realistic look many indie songs have. As showed at the bottom
many of the times we used the dark overtone was during the scenes where she is given the
‘box’ and when she tries to open it.
7. GENRE
The genre of our Music Video is Indie, we showed this throughout our work by using
nature and dark tones to show misery and despair, Also, we don't have an image of
our artist in both our Music Video and Ancillary Texts. This implies that the genre and
style of our music video may be 'different' alternative to the stand alone indie style.
Also the use of nature suggests a thoughtful/emotional attitude with our indie-rock
style and representation. Moreover certain areas throughout our work is almost
distorted to represent our music video as an audacious and rugged styled indie
artist. Also some of our colours are quite soft which shows our slowed tempo indie
style. Our work is almost an artistic collage of photographs and narratives which is
the style we have incorporated into our work.
8. STAR ICONOGRAPHY
In the indie genre, which is also the genre of our music video. Iconography in most
indie music videos is shown in the performance of the artist with an dark and grey
colour palette, In our music video and ancillary texts we used greys, blacks, navy
blues and greens on a disaturated colour palette. However, in our work, we chose to
have all narrative with no performance as our song is made up of acoustic and
vocals, we felt that incorporating an performance would be unnecessary. Also, we
chose to have an narrative as many indie music videos are quite low key and we
wanted to put emphasis on our lyrics, that’s why we chose to have a physical
representation in our work.
9. PROPS AND CLOTHING
In our music video and Magazine Advert we have shown a clear correlation of
the use of Hoodies throughout our work, this is a clear representation of
teenagers and young adults, Our male character in our work is shown wearing
dark and grey clothing in the present time and at times of emotional suffering,
he then wears an blue hoodie which clearly stands out in our video. The female
character in our work is mostly shown wearing darks, blue and grey clothing to
represent death and sorrow, there is an shot which clearly shows the contrast
between the two characters. Also we used an box to suggest the girl
symbolically, as she cannot upon up and depression and death is becoming
more prominent.
10. HOW WE TARGETED OUR AUDIENCE
Our Target Audience are young
adults/teenagers with the ages of 16–25.
We are an unisex artist appealing to both
males and females. Our audience may
take interest in our artist if they aim or
have a career in creative arts/media or just
the appreciation of creative designs and
ideas.
We took inspiration from 1975’s use of narrative in “ Robbers” and many of there creative
elements and representation of relationships. We targeted our audience by showing despair
and relationships that are happy and lonely to establish the rebellious and stressful periods of
adolescent. The clothing in our work portrayed teenagers outfits with an element of dark and
dull colours to keep that indie style throughout our work. Also, the idea we chose to have all
narrative in our video was to create a sense of unconventional and abnormal attraction many
young viewers are interesting in. Also, we did the same with our ancillary texts not showing our
artist but only a teenager leaving this dark and dismantled wood.
11. EVALUATION
As a whole, we enjoyed creating our Main product and Ancillary texts and have
successfully created a package that includes the genre and common themes
constantly in our work. If we had to improve any of our work we would take more
time creating our inside cover digipack As we feel it is slightly out of place towards
the other projects with the colour red which can become quite uncommon in our
work. Also, include more synergy throughout our work adding extra footage of the
girl in the woods on her own to simulate a dark lost soul. However, we are quite
happy with our work.
