Magazine advert analysis
1. Magazine Advert Analysis
I have decided to choose Gwen Stafani’s music advert to analyse which is promoting her latest album “Love. Angel. Music. Baby” which uses relationships between the text and images and certain aspects to promote the album.
The image of the advert is the central focus as it fits the whole of the top and middle of the advert. This is to attract the audience to the advert, as they will be familiar with Gwen Stefani hopefully as at this point she is a well-established artist and will hopefully attract the fans into buying the album. She is centrally focused with her face looking directly into the camera so she is able to relate to the audience and they should feel more authorised into buying the album feeling on a personal level with her as an artist. The colours of the advert are themed throughout having gold, white and red for both the text and the image. I think this is used to promote a theme which is part of the album as the colours red and gold are seen as quite rich and wealthy colours which link in with the songs of the album like “rich girl”. Also she promotes this theme of wealth for the album by holding a crown and diamond encrusted cane as well as sitting on her thrown giving the persona of being a “rich girl” to promote the album with a specific theme. With her makeup choices and light clothing she can also be seen to look angelic like which links into the album title “Angel” as well as the deep red lipstick for “love” which link the artist directly to the album making them associate this look of Gwen with the album.
The text of the advert continues the theme by being in a similar gold colour as the image which links the image and text together and makes a more appealing advert for the viewers to look at hopefully attracting them into buying the album. The text font is in the style of graffiti font which she could be using to appeal to her specific audience. She has always had this gangster carefree persona about her which is shown through her songs which may attract those who like that specific style of writing font. Attracting viewers to the album the text states about the songs which Gwen’s fans will be aware of which are on the album being “Rich girl” and “What you waiting for.” The text also helps educate the audience by informing them that the album is in stores now in case they were not already aware but hoping to buy the album. The logo for the record company “Target” is shown in the bottom centre of the page to make the audience aware of the record label for Gwen and associate “Target” with her making her more well known
