Pink
1. 9 Frame Analysis-Pink "So What"
6 secs
At the very start of the video this shot is shown of a medium shot of the singer pink in which she
is centrally focused to show that she is the main point of the shot and the video. An editing
technique is used through a shallow focus and the background being blurred to demonstrate the
fact she is the central focus. The shot reveals the narrative and Pink as a charecter through the
fact she is on a dangerous motorway and doesn't seem to care showing her rebelious attitude.
The outfit she is wearing is quite boyish showing her tomboy attitude and the bits of red could be
to show her firey attitude.
13 secs
This shot is a close up of both Pink and her boyfriend in the narrative. The shot shows a clever
parellel with the narrative video and lyrics by showing a direct link which is when Pink says"I
guess I just lost my husband, I don't know where he went" and the male holding his hands over
her eyes with Pink looking confused. Though the lyrics may seem to be satirical and we assume
2. Pink doesn't really mean that she has lost her husband but more he has left her however the
video shows a funny literal meaning which we as an audience will enjoy.
27 secs
Her rebelion attitude is shown further in this next shot when we see that she is aggressively
playing a guitar in a guitar shop. When she plays the guitar it's to the beat of the music and the
music and video are linked further as at the start and throughout the whole song we get a strong
sound of the electric guitar which is the main instrument and the guitar shop confirms that it is so
relevent and important.
41 secs
This close up shot of Pink is from a low angle which could be indicating that she is incontrol and
feels like a hire power than her boyfriend as at this point she is holding a chain saw. Her facial
expressions and body language here show that she is hysterical about the situation which is a
contrast with the fact she is the higher power and could possibly be to show that though she may
act and give the personer she is confident but is infact insecure about her husband leaving her.
3. 58 secs
This shot is a longshot of the garden after Pink has cut the tree down which had a carving of her
and her husbands name on it. The tree could be symbolic of their relationship which is now ended
and there is no going back as the cutting of a tree is irreversable and the tree cannot be taken
back to its natural form. Her rebelious attitude is shown further here as she ruins a perfectly neat
garden
1.11 secs
This long shot is important to the narrative and lyrics as at this point Pink states that "the waitor
just bumped my table and gave it to Jessica Simpson" and we assume the blonde walking by is
ment to be her. In the shot Jessica is completely covering Pink so that she is no longer in the shot
which could be to indiicate that in the celebrity world Jessica is seen more dominant. This could
possibly be shown as Pink wants to change and almost make a joke out of this view. The actress
playing Jessica sways her hair as if she is better than everyone else which could also be Pink
highlighting how she thinks Jessica is.
4. 1.27 secs
This shot highlights Pinks rebelion again and explains furthur about the narrative of the video. In
this shot she looks as if she is about to attack the couple. We can only assume the couple are
getting married through the decorated car and their outfits and through the narrative we are
aware that Pink has been dumped. The trashing of the car could be symbolic of what Pink thinks
of love now.
1.59 secs
This shot shows the comical side of the video which Pink was trying to indicate. She could be
possibly trying to show to the viewers that it is comical how much hair spray celebrities hair. A
medium shot is used so that her facial expressions are clear but the background of a dressing
room is still visible. The stylist fits the steriotypical look of a stylist to fit the narrative of the video.
5. 2.21 secs
This shot shows a more serious part of the video where Pink actually reveals her emotions of
being alone and no longer in a relationship. The background is much more dark then the previous
shots which could be to represent her emotions at this point of feeling so down. The video also is
direct with the lyrics here as Pink states "You were unfair, you let me fall" as she slides down the
wall with her facial expressions upset and in despair.
