Meaning of Compliance
• Compliance in the workplace : Workplace compliance is the act of
complying with federal, state, or local laws and regulations. Every
organization, no matter the size, must adhere to compliance
regulations. They must also meet specific mandates for data security,
privacy, and workplace security.
Types of Compliance
• There are two main types of compliance; corporate and regulatory.
• Both types of compliance involve a framework of regulations,
practices, and rules to follow.
• Corporate compliance covers both internal policies and
procedures, as well as federal and state laws. Enforcing
compliance helps your company prevent and detect violations of
rules, which protects your organization from fines and lawsuits.
• Regulatory compliance is an organization's adherence to laws,
regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business
processes

• HR compliance is a top area of focus and concern for both human
resources departments and company executives.
• Companies of all sizes face increasing HR complexities as the number
of employment laws and regulations are on the rise, and the risk of
penalties for non-compliance has perhaps never been greater.
Definition of HR Compliance
• HR compliance is a process of defining policies and procedures to ensure your employment
and work practices demonstrate a thorough understanding of applicable laws and
regulations, while also being aware of the company's larger human capital resources
objectives.
• HR compliance is the commitment of the business to follow the working standards set out
by employment law.
• HR compliance is the process of creating and enforcing internal HR policies that follow
labor and employment laws and regulations. Besides being a legal requirement, HR
compliance can help you prevent employment disputes and litigation.
Definition of HR Compliance (continue)
• HR compliance is defined as the process of
aligning workplace policies with a city’s,
state’s, country’s, and the world’s labor laws,
in sync with industry-specific regulations. In
addition to policy setup, enforcing practices
to follow these policies daily is also part of
HR compliance.
Examples
• Whoever handles your business’s human resources functions should know about every HR
compliance task. These tasks cover a multitude of categories, such as employee recruitment
and termination, hiring and onboarding, payroll and benefits, employee relations, and risk
and safety.
• For instance, just recently, the US. Government released the Families First Coronavirus
Response Act, which makes it mandatory for employers to offer paid sick leave or extended
family and medical leave until December 31, 2020, for reasons associated with COVID-19.
• The rollout of GDPR two years ago was another law that introduced a tectonic shift in HR
compliance.
