How Your Main Product and Ancillary Texts Connect
1. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR
MAIN PRODUCT AND
ANCILLARY TEXTS?
2. ■ The most clear and obvious way that my main product and digipak are
connected are through the mirroring of the images. This meant that I could use
the same images from video within my digipak, showing continuity across the
texts.
■ To technically develop this further, I have also used the same contrast and tinting
effects on the music video and the images for the digipak. Whilst of course these
could not be precisely the same, due to the different technologies that I have used,
they did closely follow. This also helped to get the 'pop genre' feel to the music
video.
3. ■ The different fonts that I have also used seem to slightly hinder this, as they were not
the same. This is primarily due to the fact photoshop and iMovie had different
settings, however because the only text within the music video is the copyrighting at
the end, I do not believe it is a huge issue. Furthermore, this meant that we did not
need to stick to our artist branding as the music video did not include the name, which
typically has some sort of memorable form.
4. ■ I believe that, although they are simplistic, my advertisement and digipak will easily
sell to an audience. As it looks professional and the entirety of the construction has
good correlations. Thus, I also think the fact I have included one of the images from
the digipak onto the advertisement means that audiences can connect the products.
Again, I think that the use of the star ratings on the advertisement will easily sell the
product (something I have transferred from professional album advertisements).
5. ■ To answer how I think both my constructions will link to the genre of pop and the
conventions that this follows is easy, because I have used several transferable
conventions from the professional texts I have studied. For example, the use of the
changing colour of the lipstick, links to the Beyoncé video that I looked at.The vibrant
colours and contrasts that were edited into both my construction and digipak closely
link toTaylor Swifts video, as well as the name of the artist being bolder and more
pronounced linking generically to pop digipaks.
