Here are three ways the feedback improved my work:
1. It helped me notice small alignment issues I had missed, like text being off-centre or too close to edges. This improved the overall layout and readability.
2. The suggestions to adjust spacing and positioning of specific elements, like moving "Mondrian" down, helped balance everything visually.
3. Receiving feedback from a third party allowed me to see my work with fresh eyes. What I thought looked fine, they could point out small ways to enhance it. This outside perspective strengthened the final product.
2. Task 1 – Research – Web source
A group of Dutch artists in 1917
Piet Mondrian, Theo Van Doesburg, Bart van der Leck, Georges Vantongerloo
Seeking laws of equilibrium applicable to art and life
Mondrian sought ‘pure abstraction’ which he did not find in Analytical Cubism
Vertical and horizontal lines
Black, white, grey and primary colours

3. Task 1 – Research – Web source
‘We speak of concrete and not abstract painting because nothing is more
concrete, more real than a line, a colour, a surface.’ - Theo Van Doesburg
De Stijl was used as a response to the horrors of WW1 and as a wish to rebuild
society, De Stijl members embraced a utopian version of art and it as a means
of social redemption

6. Task 1 – Research – Web source
‘The more basic the color, the more inward, the more pure.’
‘Abstract art is not the creation of another reality but the true vision of
reality.’
’Curves are so emotional.’
‘I wish to approach truth as closely as is possible, and therefore I abstract
everything until I arrive at the fundamental quality of objects.’

8. Task 2c – Planning
Title ideas
Style
Neoplasticism
Reality
Dutch
Date – 7th March is van Doesburg’s death day and Mondrian’s birthday
Location – Tate Modern
Use these slides to show your planning of your
products, think about structure and the components
for each product [evidence for this may include
storyboards, flat plans, sketches, etc]
10. Task 4 – Evaluation – Production
Describe three strengths of your final pieces.
1- The poster accurately represents the art style. There is only straight lines,
horizontal and vertical (as diagonal lines were a point of argument between
van Doesburg and Mondrian). There is neutral and primary colours used.
2- The poster follows the brief for what is needed (sans serif, lower caps, one
word title). There is at least the information asked for: title, date and
location.
3- It is easy to read. The font is clear and there is no colour clash against the
background. There is enough space for all the text in their boxes and it is
spread out well.
11. Task 4 – Evaluation – Production
Describe three areas for improvement in your final pieces.
1- The poster could be more detailed and have more information (more dates, a
time, info about the style) as someone who didn’t know the art style would
probably lose interest unless they were big into art.
2- The text in most boxes should be more central. If the text is off kilter then the
reader would notice and it can make the poster look clumsy and unprofessional.
There could have been more care taken with the gaps between the edges and the
text.
3- The shade of yellow is off-putting as it is slightly greener than it should be. De
Stijl is meant to be neutral and primary colours so the yellow being off doesn’t
follow the art style as well as it could.
12. Task 4 – Evaluation – Problem Solving
Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these
1- Learning to use Photoshop for the poster as I have not used it in a few years so
was hard to start back up. To solve this I used tutorials and received assistance
from tutors- both generally as a class and individually with things I have struggled
with.
2- The internet was slow and there were blocked websites- like Youtube. To solve
this I was able to use my phone to speed up the process as I could have 2 screens
so could check emails on my phone whilst working on my powerpoint.
3- Making sure the lines were all straight and at 90° to each other and making sure
there was no overlap was frustrating. To solve this I didn’t rush through the
process and used the rectangle tool instead of the line tool where I could to help
myself.
13. Task 4 – Evaluation – Working with others
Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your
team and this benefited the project
1- Researching together meant we spent less time but were able to gather
more information and could discuss what we’d found out. We were able to
focus on different things to research and report back to each other.
2- Having a partner meant we could discuss problems we were facing with
creating the posters or selecting information. It helped to have someone to
talk to about your ideas and could help decide.
3- In my team I was able to receive feedback on my poster that I hadn’t
noticed was an issue. It helped to have a third-person perspective before
asking a tutor to evaluate.
14. Task 4 – Evaluation - Feedback
My tutor suggested to move the sub heading
slightly to the left, to fit the quote into the
box away from the edge so it is easier to
read and to move ‘Mondrian’ a line down so
it was more even.
This made me notice that ‘The Tate Modern’
and ‘style’ were off centre as well so I
edited those issues as well.
