Mine Planning Engineer 2008 to 2009
In charge of short term Mine Planning of two big open pits with annual production of finished
metal of over 250kt
Monthly Planning- Planning and scheduling of short term monthly plans which includes blocking
of the areas for ore and waste stripping, planning the volume and tonnage of ore to feed the crushers
for one month to three month, production of monthly block model reports in Surpac and Microsoft
excel, supervising the implementation of a month plan and liaising with a mining contractor on how
best to realize the plan, setting out mining targets for both ore and waste.
Weekly mine planning- Planning and scheduling of mining unit activities which include: design of
drill and blast patterns for short term weekly schedule, planning blast inventories to feed the process
plant grade-tonnage requirement. Producing mine plans using Surpac mining software, supervising
the implementation of the weekly plan, liaising with the mining contractor to ensure the plan is
implemented and followed.
Daily Mine planning- Planning of 24 hour line up, this include making maps using ACAD software
to show daily equipment locations on the mining faces.
Controlling of pit and dumps- checking that mining and filling conforms to the desired design by
ensuring that material is mined to the correct design. Controlling the way blasting is done to ensure
minimum ore dilution.
Chairing and Directing meetings- Chairing of Pre production planning meetings where the
contractors’ project manager, client’s mine manager, contractors production manager, shift manager,
drill and blast superintendents, dispatch Engineers, Chief Geologist, production Geologists, planning
engineers (contractor) formed part of the quorum.
Contracts supervision-have supervised the following project works; haul road lighting project,
construction of explosive manufacturing plant project and underground dewatering project. Specific
projects cost managed ranged from $US 794 000 to raising and ensuring invoices claims of up to $15
million.
