OR CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
Kompetensi Dasar
3.5 Menerapkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks interaksi
transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta
informasi terkait pengandaian diikuti oleh perintah/saran, sesuai dengan konteks
penggunaannya. (Perhatikan unsur kebahasaan if dengan imperative, can,
should).
4.5. Menyusun teks interaksi transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan
tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait pengandaian diikuti oleh
perintah/saran, dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur
kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai konteks.
Tujuan Pembelajaran
 Menirukan beberapa contoh interaksi pengandaian diikuti oleh
perintah/saran, yang diperagakan dengan ucapan dan tekanan kata yang
benar.
 Mengidentifikasi ungkapan pengandaian dengan saran dari contoh-contoh yang
ada, dilihat dari isi dan cara pengungkapannya.
 Mengidentifikasi fungsi sosial/struktur teks/unsur kebahasaan yang digunakan
dalam interaksi yang dipelajari.
 Melakukan tindakan komunikatif terkait pengandaian.
 Melakukan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait pengandaian.
IF CALUSE
OR CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
Composed by 2 parts
 one that expresses the condition
Introduced by the word “ if ”, commonly known as “if clause”.
 one that expresses the consequence.
Example: If you work hard, you will succeed.
Types
Pattern A : probable condition
Pattern B : improbable condition
Pattern C : imaginary condition
Pattern A : Probable Condition
Used for actions which are true or likely to happen
Examples:
If it rains tomorrow, we shall cancel the picnic.
You will be tired if you do a lot of exercises.
Note on pattern A: If + present tense, future tense
Pattern B : Improbable Condition
Used for present or future activities which are improbable or unlikely to happen
Examples:
If it rained tomorrow, we should stay at home.
You could start dinner if it were ready.
Note on Pattern B: if + past tense, would/should + verb
Pattern C : Imaginary Condition
Used for impossible activities which could NOT be true or performed
Examples: If it had rained yesterday, I would have stayed at home.
What would you have done if you had been attacked by a monster?
Note on Pattern C: if + past perfect, perfect conditional
“ Should/would + present perfect tense” is called perfect conditional.
TASK 1
Try to distinguish the following sentences (pattern A,B or C).
1. If you take a taxi, you can get there in time for the play.
2. If I had known your arrival, I should have met you.
3. If I dropped this bomb, it would explode .
4. If you got a bunch of money, would you spend it on stupid things?
5. If the student had got enough sleep, she wouldn’t have faced difficulties in
reading the material.
TASK 2
Fill in the correct forms of the verbs in brackets, according to the type of the IF-
sentence shown at the end!

2. The police _______ (ARREST) him if they _______ (CATCH) him. (1)
3. What _______ (HAPPEN) if my parachute _______ (NOT OPEN)? (1)
4. I _______ (BE) angry if he _______ (MAKE) more mistakes. (2)
5. If he _______ (NOT BE) late we _______ (GO) without him. (3)
TASK 3
Fill in the correct form of the verb in brackets!
1. If Anne’s father gets seriously ill, they _______ (BRING) him to the hospital.
2. If I _______ (BE) you I would pay more attention in class.
3. They _______ (NOT GO) out if they don’t get a babysitter.
4. The manager would have fired him if he _______ (HAVE) someone else to
replace him.
5. I _______ (LIKE) her more if she hadn’t asked such stupid questions.
TASK 4
Put the verbs in brackets into their correct tense!

help.

Kompetensi Dasar 3.5 Menerapkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks interaksi transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait pengandaian diikuti oleh perintah/saran, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya. (Perhatikan unsur kebahasaan if dengan imperative, can, should). 4.5. Menyusun teks interaksi transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait pengandaian diikuti oleh perintah/saran, dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai konteks.
  • 3. Tujuan Pembelajaran  Menirukan beberapa contoh interaksi pengandaian diikuti oleh perintah/saran, yang diperagakan dengan ucapan dan tekanan kata yang benar.  Mengidentifikasi ungkapan pengandaian dengan saran dari contoh-contoh yang ada, dilihat dari isi dan cara pengungkapannya.  Mengidentifikasi fungsi sosial/struktur teks/unsur kebahasaan yang digunakan dalam interaksi yang dipelajari.  Melakukan tindakan komunikatif terkait pengandaian.  Melakukan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait pengandaian.
  • 4. IF CALUSE OR CONDITIONAL SENTENCES Composed by 2 parts  one that expresses the condition Introduced by the word “ if ”, commonly known as “if clause”.  one that expresses the consequence. Example: If you work hard, you will succeed.
  • 5. Types Pattern A : probable condition Pattern B : improbable condition Pattern C : imaginary condition
  • 6. Pattern A : Probable Condition Used for actions which are true or likely to happen Examples: If it rains tomorrow, we shall cancel the picnic. You will be tired if you do a lot of exercises. Note on pattern A: If + present tense, future tense
  • 7. Pattern B : Improbable Condition Used for present or future activities which are improbable or unlikely to happen Examples: If it rained tomorrow, we should stay at home. You could start dinner if it were ready. Note on Pattern B: if + past tense, would/should + verb
  • 8. Pattern C : Imaginary Condition Used for impossible activities which could NOT be true or performed Examples: If it had rained yesterday, I would have stayed at home. What would you have done if you had been attacked by a monster? Note on Pattern C: if + past perfect, perfect conditional “ Should/would + present perfect tense” is called perfect conditional.
