En esta nueva unidad aprenderás a como reportar lo que alguien te dijo o te
pregunto, a una tercera persona, así como emitir ordenes que alguien más
dio. Esto sucede cuando alguien no escucha correctamente o no esta
presente en el momento que se lleva a cabo la conversación. Vamos a ver
como usar este nuevo tema .
Reported Speech or Indirect Speech
Reported Speech or Indirect Speech
In Direct Speech, we repeat the exact words that someone said. We usually use the
verb say and the words of the speaker are put in quotaton marks.
Irina said, “Tina is on the phone”
In Reported Speech, we report the meaning of what someone said, without using
their exact words. We use a reporting verb, usually say or tell, followed by that (which
can be omitted) and the reported statement.
Irina said that Tina was on the phone.
Reported speech is when you tell somebody else what you or a person said before.
Distinction must be made between direct speech and reported speech
When you use reported speech, you either report:
• statements
• questions
• requests / commands
• other types
When we change a sentence from Direct to Reported Speech, pronouns and
possessive adjectives change according to the meaning of the sentence
“You look great in your new dress,” said David.
David said that I looked great in my new dress.
When a sentence changes from Direct to Reported Speech, tenses, modals and
time expressions change as follows
When making the changes to Reported Speech, remember that some other
expressions and markers change
Now let’s see how reported speech is used in a normal conversation
When changing questions to Reported Speech, you need to take into account
the following changes and details
When reporting commands or requests, you need to remember the following
details.
Let’s see how these changes work in a normal conversation
Let’s see again how reported speed is used in conversations
Check the vocabulary
words below and then
complete the exercise in

• The expression let’s is usually reported using suggest. In this case,
there are two possibilities for reported speech: gerund or statement
with should.
Example:
"Let’s go to the cinema."

tener alguna duda o necesites apoyo
Aquí te dejamos como siempre las respuestas de los ejercicios para que puedas
comparar tus respuestas con ellas
