This clip goes against what the stereotype is for elderly people on tv but it also
shows the stereotype. In this scene it shows House, who is an elderly person,
become weak and powerless to defend himself. In this his survival was reliant on
a younger inmate. This can show that House is realty on these younger inmates
to protect him. However, there is another elderly character is shown as the
complete opposite as he is shown as a strong and powerful character who others
are clearly afraid of and will do what he says.
I can easily tell the approximate age of the characters shown as they both have
distinct features. They both have receding hair and have both got more wrinkles,
which shows more age to them. You can easily see that the younger character
you meet has a different personality to the powerless one as he managed to beat
up the two younger characters. The younger more powerful character seems to
be avoiding House, the powerless old character, as he is only hitting the younger
characters.
The younger generations seem to be more powerful than the elderly in this
scene. The powerful older character relays on the younger character to try and
kill the younger character and the younger character relays on a younger
character to make sure the attackers were unconscious.
The elderly characters seem to be more aggressive to each other the powerful
one seems to want to keep the powerless one in line. But the younger characters
seem to either be too scared or respect the powerful one as they do what he
wants them to do. But the other younger character seems to respect the
powerless elderly character as he saves him from being killed and beats up his
other attackers.
I think that the clip could show that although the character may be old the
powerful one is just that. The younger inmates will do what he says as they either
have learnt to respect or fear him. But it also shows that the powerless elderly
character is also that he is in a position where he is the weaker person and the
one who was reliant on the younger character.
