1) Side lighting-Side lightingiswhenthe lightingiscomingfromthe side.Thisusuallyprovides

2) Back lighting- Backlightingiswhenlightisbehindthe subjectandisdirectedatyouand
your camera.Thistype of lightingcancreate silhouettesquieteasily. Whenitiscombined
withatmosphericconditionssuchasfogor airborne dustyoucan getdramatic lighting
effects.
3) Rimlighting- Thisiswhenlightcomesinatan acute angle it can create highlightsalongthe
edgesof the subject.The starkcontrast that it provideshighlightsshape andform.Thistype
of lightingadsimpacttowildlife andnature.

2. 4) Ambientlighting- Ambientlightingisnon-directsoftlightingthatoftenisbouncedfromone
surface to another.Asa resultof the non-directlighting,brightnessof the subjectislower
than withothertypesof lighting.Thistype of lightingcanoftentrickpeople tothinkabout
the image of how we thinkof it subconsciously. Ambientlightingworkswell foravarietyof

5) Softof diffuse lighting- Softlightisdiffuseprovidinglightingthatiseven.Thistype of
lightingreducescontrastand minimises shadows.Softlightisexcellentforportraiture,
marco and nature photography.

3. 6) Hard light- Hard lightisquite directandcan oftenbe intense inbrightness,thistype of
lightingcreatesstrongshadowsandhighcontrast. Highlights canbe quite intenseunder
hard lightingconditionssospecial care shouldbe made withthe exposure.Hardlightcan be
stylisticallyappliedtomostany photographicgenre,butformmanyeyesitcan be less
appealingthanothertypesof lighting.
7) Spotlight- VerysimplySpotlightiswhenafocusedamountof lighthighlightsaparticular
sectionof the subjector scene.Thistype of lightingcancreate strongshadowsand
contrast.Spot lightcan adddramatic impactto all genresof photography.

4. 8) Artificial lighting- The mostobvious type of lightingisartificial lighting.Thiscanbe
generatedfromavarietyof studiolights,andbuiltinorexternal flashunits.There are few
genresof photographythatartificial lightingcannotbe usedsuccessfully. Artificial lighting
