1. COSTUMES
I have chosen these to be related to my costumes because they will fit in well with the genre of the
documentary. I have wide range of outfits for the students and some of the teachers also. These are the
main costume types that you would normally see in schools as they are very smart and casual. The
costumes fit well within the codes and conventions of an ‘Educating’ documentary because it is what
they wear in the documentary it really does specify the location of wear the students are and what it is
about.
I am making people wear clothing that is specifically tailored to the school environment so by having
either a type of uniform or smart wear that fits into the documentary style. The costumes will also link
to the audiences expectations of the genre of this documentary as they expect students to be smart
and professional looking.
2. PROPS
Theses are typical school equipment that children carry around in there bags and leave in classrooms. I generalized
the props to the typical expectations of what kind of stationary children would carry around with them and what is
also found in schools. However the pictures I have used might be what a girl student would have.
Some of the images above match the codes and conventions of the genre of the documentary as they are used daily,
so I thought that it would be appropriate to chose these props that are always seen around any school. This will link
to the audiences expectations as the props set the location of the documentary and the daily school life of the
students.
3. LOCATION
The location is obviously a school setting which will really have that sense of school
community. I have selected various locations on school sites as it can be seen on the
mood board, this will further highlight the genre of documentary. I have taken this
inspiration from TV documentaries such as Educating Yorkshire and Educating Essex,
most of the location would take place in different class rooms to get a better view of
school life.
I want the location to be in a school as that is the genre I have chosen, the audience
will then be able to receive the most realistic image of the documentary by having the
location at the school. Having the students around will also add to the realism of the
documentary. I am thinking about using a voiceover to follow the known codes and
conventions of a usual documentary whilst there are actions taking place
