form of shape.

12. SPACE
īĩ Space is at the heart of virtually every design decision.
īĩ There are two basics types of space to considered.
īĩ 2D shape [ which accounts for the length and width of a room ]
īĩ 3D shape [ which covers height]
īĩ For example, only 2-D space is important when thinking of carpets
or rugs â but youâll need to think about 3-D space before adding
new shelving or furniture. Itâs also important to leave enough empty
or ânegativeâ space to allow for fluid, easy navigation (and break the
room up visually).

SOME DESIGNERS EVEN BELIEVE THAT IT IS EVERYTHING IN
DESIGN SO YOU MESS IT UP , ALL OTHER STEPS FALL
APART.
īĩ Balance is achieved by distributing the visual weight of
objects within a space to achieve a feeling of equilibrium.
The size, shape, color and texture have a major impact on
the visual weight of a particular item. Larger, darker, brighter
and highly textured objects typically feel heavier.
15. EMPHASIS

furniture or art needs to play roles of grabbing
attention.
īĩ Interior design elements including texture,
form, pattern , and color helps to emphasis specific
focus points.
īĩ You can use two elements of design to create
emphasis. Light and color.
īĩ Light and color are the two quick and easy method of
doing this.
16. CONTRAST
īĩ The contrast in interior design has to do with the difference of
the color or luminance of objects differentiating them for
each other.
īĩ It is achievable using three elements. These are space , form
,and color.
īĩ One can use prints and pillows of two colors opposite such as
white and black to achieve contrast and create a
distinguishable object.
17. RHYTHM
ī§ rhythm is all about repetition of design elements that help to
create movement within a space. Rhythm may be applied in
bold statements that make an obvious suggestion about a
path of travel, or more subtly applied to move your eye
about a space without you even realizing the rhythm is there.
ī§ rhythm is defined as recurrence, continuity or organized
movement. When you repeat color, shapes, pattern, texture
or complementary similar pieces through space, you create
visual interest and rhythm.
18. SCALE AND PROPORTION

scale refers to one objects size concerning another. Specifically , the concept of
scale is used when one objectâs size is knownfor certain. For example :-

What is proportion ?
Proportion refers to the general size relationship between two different objects.
When degree refers to a proportion , they are trying to describe the way objects
related to each other in a room. For example:-
ī§ Coffee table needs to be two-thirds as long as the couch it is used with.
19. Harmony
īĩ Harmony is the sense that all of the
elements of your design fit together. ...
Unity refers to the repetition of particular
elements throughout your design â
whether they're colors, shapes or materials
â to pull the look together. These
principles are used to create a sense of
cohesion in the space.
īĩ Harmony is the visually satisfying effect of
