2. Ancient computers
•Abacus: It was the most
ancient computer. First
automatic computer used
for counting and
calculating.
•Pascaline: This device
could perform simple
tasks like
addition,substraction etc.
3. •In the year 1830 Charles Babbage created a fully
automatic computer called Analytical engine.
HE is known as the “Father of computing”.
6. Modern computers: The evolution of
computers is divided into five generations
•First generation (1937-1953):This generation used
vaccum tubes which produced lot of heat and
consumed excess amount of energy.
•The UNIVAC was the first computer made for this
generation.
10. Third generation(1963-1972)
•In this generation tiny transistors were put together
to form an integrated circuit(IC ).
•For the first time keyboard, mouse and monitor
were used.
•Mainframe computer were developed during this
generation.
11.
12. Fourth generation(1971-1984)
•The first microprocessor was introduced.
•These microprocessors used silicon chips.
•Personal computers were introduced around this
time.
13.
14. Fifth generation(1980 onwards)
•Post 1980 high level languages are being replaced
with natural languages, a branch of artificial
intelligence.
•Examples of this generation are laptops, palmtops.
