3. Known for mathematics ,
Computing
Was called as the Father
of Modern Day Computing
He invented fully automatic
computer called as Analytical
Engine in 1830
Died ion 18 October 1871 (aged 79)
Marylebone ,London
CHARLES BABBAGE
Born on 26 December 1791 in
London , England
4. The Analytical Engine was a
proposed mechanical general-
purpose computer designed by
English mathematician Charles
Babbage.
Trial model of a part of the
Analytical Engine, built by
Babbage, as displayed at
the Science Museum
(London)
The Analytical Engine incorporated an arithmetic logic
unit, control flow in the form of conditional branching
and loops, and integrated memory.
It was first described in 1837 as the
successor to Babbage's Difference
engine, a design for a mechanical
computer.

5. ENIAC was the first Turing-
complete device , and
performed ballistics
trajectory calculations for
the United States Army.
The machine was huge, weighing
30 tons, using 200 kilowatts of electric
power and contained over 18,000
vacuum tubes, 1,500 relays, and
hundreds of thousands of resistors,
capacitors, and inductors.
It also had modules to multiply, divide, and square root.
High speed memory was limited to 20 words (about 80
bytes).
It could add or subtract 5000 times a
second , a thousand times faster than
any other machine.

6. In a vacuum tube is a device
controlling electric current through a
vacuum in a sealed, usually glass,
container.
The device can be used as an
electronic amplifier a rectifier, an
electronically controlled switch, an
oscillator.
Vacuum tubes mostly rely on thermionic emission of
electrons from a hot filament or a cathode heated by the
filament. This type is called a thermionic tube or
thermionic valve.

7. Assorted discrete
transistors. Packages in
order from top to
bottom.
A transistor is a semiconductor device
used to amplify and switch electronic
signals and electrical power.
It is composed of semiconductor
material with at least three terminals for
connection to an external circuit.
A voltage or current applied to one pair of the transistor's
terminals changes the current through another pair of
terminals.
The transistor is the fundamental
building block of modern electronic
devices.

9. IBM 7090 operator's
console in 1961, with two
banks of IBM 729 magnetic
tape drives.
They had powerful processing
speed and capacity.
In 1959 IBM shipped the
transistor -based IBM 7090
mainframe which was much
smaller and cheaper.
These were mainly used in
scientific applications.

of a racking unit. A
TU56 dual DEC tape
drive is also installed.
The PDP-11 was a series of 16-bit
minicomputers sold by Digital
Equipment Corporation (DEC) from
1970 into the 1990s .
In total, around 600,000 PDP-11s of
all models were sold.
The PDP-11 was easier to program
than its predecessors through the
additional general-purpose registers.

12. Born on 8 November 1923 in
U.S. , Jefferson City ,Missouri
Fields like Physics , Electrical
Engineering
First integrated circuit (IC)
was invented by him in 1958
For which he won the 2000
Nobel Prize in Physics
Died on 20 June ,2005 ( aged
81) Dallas ,Texas U.S.

14. VLSI considerably reduced
the size of the computers , as
its processor was a small
chip.
Personal Computers (PCs)
ere introduced around this
time powered by 8bits
processors.
THE MICRO (PERSONAL) COMPUTER
16. The 16bits microprocessors were
now capable of handling large data at
very high speed.
The fifth generation of computers
had millions of transistors on a single
chip.
In addition , there was an
increasing use of computer networks
and single – user workstations.

18. They are also sometimes called
notebook computers.
As portable computers became smaller, lighter, cheaper, and
more powerful and as screens became smaller and of better
quality, laptops became very widely used for a variety of
purposes.
A laptop is a portable personal
computer with a clamshell form factor,
suitable for mobile use.
Laptops are commonly used in a variety
of settings, including work, education,
and personal multimedia.

19. Most handheld devices can also be equipped with Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth, and GPS capabilities that can allow connections to
the Internet and a microphone headset.
A mobile device is a input small,
handheld computing device, typically
having a display screen with a miniature
keyboard and weighing less.
A handheld computing device has an
operating system (OS), and can run
various types of application software,
known as apps.
