3. Directors
They have the role of visualising and
defining the style and structure of the film,
then bringing it to life. They work closely
with the production, technical and creative
teams. They would usually appear at the
start of the opening credits or at the end.
Screenplay writer(s)
Screenplay writer(s) are the one that creates
the script of a film, they create the story, the
characters and story. They are essential to
film making because without them we
wouldn’t have a film.
4. Producers
They are the people that organise and
oversee the conception to completion till the
end also they have a role in marketing and
distribution processes. Producers work
closely with directors and other production
staff on the shoot.
Executive Producer(s)
Their role is to oversee the work of the
producer on behalf of the studio, the
financiers or the distributors. They ensure
that the film is completed on time, within
budget, and to agreed artistic and technical
standards.
5. Main Cast
The actor is to act out their own roles in the
film to be able to bring the story alive.
Famous/ popular actors/actress will usually
have the top billing because they play the
principal characters in the film and have the
most screen time.
Casting director(s)
Their role is to recruit a lot of
actors/actresses that are going to appear in
the movie. They will then narrow down
their candidates that are suitable for the
film.
6. Director of Photography
This role’s responsibility is to be a chief over
the camera and lighting crews working on a
film, television production or other live
action piece and they are in charge of
making decisions that can enhance the film.
Production Designer
They are the ones that create the sets and
props for the actors to use. They are
usually credited in the middle or the end of
the opening credits.
7. Film Editor
After, the scenes are filmed, they would edit
them by linking them in sequence and cut
some extra scenes if they are unwanted
anymore.
Music composer
Their job is to create background music
that would create the best mood for the
film.
8. Costume Designer
Costume designers help make clothes for the
actors/actress so they are able to make their
character more realistic.
Visual Effects Supervisor
The role of a visual effects supervisor is to
achieve certain creative effects of the
director and/or producers through the use
of computer effects or actual stunts
(artificial rain).
9. Title
A name for the film. This can appear at the
start, middle or the end of the opening
credits depending on the director’s wish.
Motion picture/production companies
They are responsible for fundraising for the
production directly or through being
partners, parent company or private
investors. They would usually appear after
the director in the opening credits.

Heyday Films - David Heyman
One of the UK’s pre-eminent producers, David Heyman struck gold as the producer

with the Hollywood studio – one of very few such deals in the UK. War drama St
Nazaire about the British commando raid in 1942, directed by Potter’s David Yates,
is on the cards. November sees the release of space drama Gravity, starring George

11. Production and Distribution
Production, in the film industry means the actually
making and developing of the film. They are the ones
that organise the finance, making it profitable and in
budget. E.G. Columbia
Distribution means being the middleman of the business,
their job is to get the movie to other studios. They are
an independent company that ensures a place for the
producer’s film. E.G. Waner Brothers.
