• With new technology it is also becoming a lot easier and
accessible for people to create music.
3. Distribution
• Sony Music can distribute their music by using this new technology.
We can now listen to music on the internet (YouTube, Social
Networking Sites), mobile phones, music channels and other
programmes on the TV.
• Different films can feature music which may boost their fan base:
• Aerosmith have music featured in ‘Blades of Glory’.
• ACDC also have music in ‘Wild Hogs’.
This is an example of synergy within Sony Music.
4. Marketing
• Music can be marketed by posters, adverts on: TV, radio, the internet,
iPod/iPhone apps, magazines, newspapers and many more.
• Artists such as Rebecca Ferguson and Olly Murs were found on the X-
Factor which immediately created a buzz and fan base around them.
• Paul Potts and Susan Boyle were found on Britain’s Got Talent which
has the same effect.
• Throughout each of the shows, they became more and more popular
and people are willing to download their music/visit shows/vote for
them. This results in Sony making more and more money.
5. Exhibition
(Exchange and
Consumption)
• Audiences can consume or buy a band/artists’ music by
download (iTunes) you can listen to their music (Music
Unlimited, music channels on TV and by radio). Also, Social
Networking sites create a buzz about a band/artist (can link
songs from sites such as YouTube, on Facebook fan pages
can be made with news and updates)
6. Merchandising
• Merchandising can help advertise a band/artist even further, and
promote Sony as a company. They can become more popular
and well-known when in adverts, not just for their music.
• The majority of profit can be made through this as a product may
have a bigger target audience. For example, people may not be
particularly interested in an artists’ music, however buy their
perfume as they just like it.
• Artists signed with Sony such as Beyonce, The Vaccines and
One Direction all have merchandise out such as
books, t-shirts and perfume.
