2. We have chosen the
masthead as DRGM; this
was the most popular
with the audience as it
had around 40% of the
votes so it won outright.
The audience also
wanted the masthead to
be dominant so it takes
up most of the top third
of the magazine. When
displayed in shops,
having the masthead
towards the top left
corner is beneficial as it
catches the eye of the
customer quicker and
easier.
This is where the issue
number and date/price
will be features are
going to be placed as
this will be important
the reader and will be
near the eye catching
masthead making it
convenient for the
reader to see this
information.
These are going to be
placed all the way
down the left third of
the page as most
magazines are
displayed in shops
with the left third on
display, this will draw
the reader’s attention
to the articles inside
that could interest
them. These are going
to be in black bold
fonts so it sticks out
against the white
background.
The centre of visual
interest will be here it
will contain a
professional picture of
two artists(one of them
being the feature
artist), the picture itself
will be central with a
white/grey background.
The centre of visual
interest will combine
the theme of money
and success with
urban/street
stereotypes. This is to
create an impression on
the reader and spark
discussion within the
community.

Barcode Anchorage text
The anchorage test for the centre of visual interest will be placed
across the bottom of the picture in a bold contrasting font, this text
will also hint at the feature article, while also being related to the artist
3. Contents title
The contents title is
going to straight across
the top of the whole
page to make it clear to
the reader, in this
particular page I will not
use any urban slang so
the readers don’t get
confused when
navigating around the
magazine. Like the
masthead this title will
be a dominant
convention
Background photoPage
numbers
and titles
The background
photo is going to
be slightly
translucent and
in a greyscale
colour scheme, it
is going to be the
feature artist
only and be
quite
minimalistic
The page
numbers and
titles will be
in black as
this contrasts
against the
whites and
light greys ill
be using for
the
background,
the page titles
will be clear
as it wont
confuse the
reader who
might not be
familiar with
urban slang.
4. Article title
Close up picture
of feature artist Feature article
Sub image of the two artists
on the front page
The title of the
article will be
across both pages
and in a black font
to make it stand
out, the
background will
be light grey so it
will follow a
consistent house
style with the rest
of the magazine,
the, the article
title may have
slang words that
some members of
the audience wont
understand but as
the slang wont be
strong throughout
the article the
reader will still
get the idea of
what is being said.
The second
page will
have a small
image of the
two artists
from the
front cover,
and the first
page will
have a close
up of the
feature artist
only.
Pull out quote
The pull out
quote will
provoke a
reaction with
the artist as
well as
shocking the
reader causing
them to
interact with
the article. This
will also control
the main
theme of the
article
5. Shot List- Front Cover
Wide Shot
Medium close
up
Two shot
This shot will include the artists whole body and it will
include a lot of the background, we are planning to use
a graffiti wall background as this is typical of the genre
and stereotypical of rap. The artist will be in urban
clothing, like tracksuits and will have serious facial
expressions
This is an artist focussed shot so the props that the
artist has will be prominent. Props like chains and
watches will be featured in an artist focussed shot
like this, this jewellery is typical of a rap genre and
conveys a sense of wealth
This shot will include two artists usually the top
half of their body, like the medium close up we
will emphasis the sense of wealth by having
props such as chains and watches, this will
appeal to the audience as they would want to
be successful like the artists shown
6. Shot List- Contents Page
Medium close
up
Close up
Extreme close
up
The image is going to be the background of the contents page so it will be
translucent and in greyscale. The image may not include as many props as the
front page as the image wont be one of the main focusses it will just contain the
top half of the feature artist creating a direct address to the reader. We have seen
this in many similar products and this will appeal to the audience as it doesn’t
clutter the contents page when the reader needs to navigate
This shot will only contain the head of the feature artist so like the previous shot
their wont be many props, however this is what I want as the image will be
dropped behind the text and wont be dominant, a minimalistic contents page is
typical of magazines in this genre and appeals to the audience as the page isn't
cluttered and confusing when trying to navigate around the magazine
This shot focusses on part of the artists body and face, so again this
shot wont contain any props that stand out as the image will be
greyscale, and in the background.
7. Shot List- Double Page Spread
Wide shot
Medium close
up
Two shot
This will be a shot containing all of the artists body from a low angle shooting
upwards, this conveys a sense of dominance and the ‘macho’ stereotype male
rappers have. This shot will also include a lot of props and jewellery and props
that convey wealth. This appeals to the audience in the sense they want to be
successful and get a lot of money like they have.
This will show the artists top half of their body, the props and jewellery will be
heavily emphasised on this page as the picture will be on a page by itself, this
again will convey the main theme of wealth combined with urban stereotypes
that may shock the reader and especially older generation people who pass
by the magazine
This will contain both of the artists from the front cover, it will be a low angle
wide shot but containing two artists, one of them will be wearing a suit whilst
the other is in a tracksuit combining urban stereotypes and wealth conveying
the nature of rap/grime to the reader. They both however will have
prominent jewellery to show they are both from the same genre of music.
