Q2
1. Q2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
The target audience for my magazine is people aged 16-25 year olds both male and female and in order to relate with my
target audience I needed to include features in my magazine that represented
The first thing I needed to do was understanding what content was going to be shown in my magazine and how I was
going to portray it ; I used different elements such as costume to portray a RnB star that would appeal to fans of
Rnb/hip-hop as well as middle class and working class people; I also needed to attract female and male audienceβs in a
young age range, the main feature on my front page is a male wearing a dark top, chains, a watch and a hat β this shows
a stereotypical βrapperβ and connotates wealth, by doing this it creates a independent and successful figure which
members of the target audience look up to and strive to be; the way in which the model is stood which seems to be a
strong stance this represents the authority that the model has over the target audience which relict's the young
generation being obsessed with celebrities and materialistic items.
As my target audience is male and female and hip-hop/rnb attracts a
wide audience I needed to make sure I represented
Both genders within my work to appeal to males and females, I used 3
different models overall β a male on my front cover, a female on my
contents page and again another male for my double page spread.
By using both genders in my
magazine I am also able to
represent different sexuality's and
appeal to both genders through
showing each gender differently, I
used clothes to emphasise the hip-
hop genre of my contents page
image such as big gold hoop earring
and a brightly coloured jacket, I also
asked the model to wear shorts
which causes the women to be
slightly sexualised meaning she can
appeal to a male audience.

2. I used 3 different people in my magazine over all β The front cover image, the contents page image and the article feature on the
double page spread, all 3 people used are in the age range 17-19 which was a good way of representing age in my magazine. Even
though a lot of my magazine features imageβs of a young audience, a lot of the content in my magazine includes different articles about
focused on older generations and stories such as the feature on Jay-z and Beyonce β
As my target audience is a mass audience I needed to make sure
that I used the correct language and content in order to appeal to
all social classes and different types of people, by doing this I made
sure to feature simple language and universal words that a lot of
my audience could understand and relate too β
In this section of my double page spread I included phrases in the
interview ββmusic is so sickβ and words such as βwannaβ to expose
slang words which are used by teenagers which fall into my target
audience β this makes the audience relate with the article as they
are reading and therefore relate to the artist in the magazine.
The last way I represented different groups of
people was by including different races in my
magazine, even though I used 3 white people to
model in the rest of the magazine none of my
images were off any other races β I did however
represent different races as I used artists on the
front cover such a Wiz khalifa, Azealia Banks
and Kid Cudi who are all black β this is common
within the hip hop genre and also relates to the
black part of my audience .
