COL J. LAWRENCE McKOANE
Colonel J. Lawrence McKoane is the Vice Chief of Staff of
the California Army and Air National Guard Joint Staff. He is
responsible for oversight of plans and training to ensure
mission readiness of 22,000 California National Guard
members preparing for the full spectrum of defense support to
civil authorities during state or national emergencies.
Colonel McKoane is the past commander of the144th Fighter
Wing, the 144th
Operations Group and the 194th
Fighter
Squadron having participated in numerous operational
deployments as a fighter pilot to the Middle East and Central
America. He has spent the majority of his career as a
traditional reservist and is currently the president and chief
executive of a business located in Fresno, California.
Colonel McKoane began his military career in 1983 by
enlisting in the California Air National Guard as an Aircraft
Maintenance Specialist. He was commissioned as a
Distinguished Graduate in 1986, at the Academy of Military
Science, McGhee Tyson ANGB, Tennessee and earned his
wings at Columbus AFB, Mississippi, in 1987. Colonel
McKoane graduated with honors from California State University Fresno receiving his Bachelor of Science
Degree in Business Administration and later graduated with honors from American Military University
attaining a Master’s Degree in Joint Warfare.
Colonel McKoane is a Command Pilot, Instructor and Evaluator with more than 3000 hours in the T-37, T-
38, F-4 and F-16.
