2. Masthead
• all of them is written with capital letters
• mainly serif fonts are used
• the main image goes in front of the masthead
• the masthead is always lined with the person`s head on the main
image
• One simple word or abbreviation
• For the reasons mentioned above I will use serif and capital fonts for
my magazine`s masthead and I will place the masthead behind the
magazine`s main image like professionals did on these popular
magazines
Main Image
• Placed in the centre of the magazine
• Usually mid shots are used
• Main image goes behind the cover lines but in front of the
masthead
• The background is simple, one colour to make the main
image and texts stand out more
• Similarly to these well known magazine covers I will use mid
shot images placed in the centre of my magazine cover to
appear as more professional
3. Anchorage text
• Mostly placed on the left side of the magazine
• Always in capitals to catch the readers´ eye
• Simple colours are used, mainly black and white
• Two of the magazines are written with serif fonts but the
other two is written with sanserif fonts
• Based on the points made above I will use simple colours
like black or white, serif fonts for the anchorage text when
making my magazine
Cover line
• Positioned either on the left or right side of the magazine
• Simple colours are used but still stands out from the background
• Mixture of serif and sanserif fonts
• Placed in front of the main image
• Few lines of information about the articles in the magazine
• Due to the notes I made I will use serif or sanserif fonts when
making my magazine cover and the cover lines will be written in
either black or white fonts to make them stand out more from the
background and main image
4. Strapline
Interestingly only the GQ magazine has a
strapline written on the cover
House style:
• Generally 3 colours are used on the magazine cover (black and
white)
• Mostly serif fonts
• Bold and italic fonts are commonly used for the masthead,
anchorage texts and cover lines
Barcode:
• Only 2 of the chosen magazines has barcodes on
them
• Placed in the bottom left corner of the magazine
Puff and pug
None of the magazines have puffs and pugs on them which makes the
appearance of the magazine more elegant and reflects higher quality
Overall when creating my magazine cover I will consider the points made
above to make it look more professional and to make a good magazine
cover
