Proverbs 20:1 - Wine [is] a mocker, strong
drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived
thereby is not wise
The base for every deed is thought
and idea………….
INTRODUCTION
 Thought (also called thinking) – the
mental process in which beings form
psychological associations and models of the
world. Thinking is manipulating information,
as when we form concepts, engage in
problem solving, reason and make
decisions. Thought, the act of thinking,
produces thoughts.
CONT….
 Thought-provoking: interesting in a way
that makes you think of new ideas or
that changesyour attitude to something.
 A thought is fleeting, an idea is something
which you expel into the universe. Though
alike they are, both can cause negative
and positive effects.
CONT……..
 Ideas are more
likely to become
reality since there is
more energy put into
creating an idea.
Thoughts are not
always concrete and
can quickly change
with experience and
knowledge. An idea
is usual a concrete
concept, whether it
is true or not.
CONT……..
 Socrates is quoted as saying:
 “False words are not only
evil in themselves, but they
infect the soul with evil“.
 Matthew 5:13, 14 tells us, "Ye are the salt
of the earth...Ye are the light of the world."
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts
good morals.“
CONT……..
 Romans 12:2 "Be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by the renewing
of your mind, that ye may prove what is that
good, and acceptable, and perfect will of
God.“
 1 Corinthians 6:10
 Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards,
nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the
kingdom of God.
CONT……..
CONT……..
 SO ONE OF OUR VISION IS TO SEE
VISIONARY YOUTH FREE
OF SUBSTANCES AND CONTRIBUTE
FOR CREATING DEVELOPMENTAL
ORIENTED DRUG FREE COMMUNITY.
.DRUG FREE AND VISIONARY COMMUNITY
CONT……..
 Substance abuse is a broad term for
addiction or inappropriate use of a
chemical substance to alter one's mental,
emotional or physical state, whether the
substance is ingested orally, injected
intravenously or inhaled. Abuse doesn't
always involve or lead to addiction, while
dependence is the therapeutic term that
defines addiction. Substance abuse
generally damages one's health, because
the substances are often extremely toxic
and dangerous
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
•WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE CONTINUE TO SMOKE WHEN THE
EVIDENCE ABOUT HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SMOKING IS ALL
AROUND THEM AND KNOWN TO THOSE WHO SMOKE?

 WHAT ARE THE SHORT AND LONG-

CONT……..
 2 Peter 2:19 (New Living Translation)
They promise freedom, but they themselves
are slaves to sin and corruption. For you are
a slave to whatever controls you.

without walls Is a man who has no
control over his spirit.

cannot remember events that occurred while
under the influence)
CONT……..
 Injuries, such as motor vehicle crashes, falls,
drownings, and burns.
 Violence, including homicide, suicide, sexual assault,
and intimate partner violence.
 Alcohol poisoning, a medical emergency that results
from high blood alcohol levels.
 Risky sexual behaviors, including unprotected sex or
sex with multiple partners. These behaviors can
result in unintended pregnancy or sexually
transmitted diseases, including HIV.
 Miscarriage and stillbirth or fetal alcohol spectrum
disorders (FASDs) among pregnant women
LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL
Unintentional injuries such as car crash, falls,
burns, drowning
 Intentional injuries such as firearm injuries,
sexual assault, domestic violence
 Increased on-the-job injuries and loss of
productivity

relationships
 Alcohol poisoning
CONT……..
 High blood pressure, stroke, and other heart-related
diseases
 Liver disease
 Nerve damage
 Sexual problems
 Permanent damage to the brain
 Vitamin B1 deficiency, which can lead to a disorder
characterized by amnesia, apathy and disorientation
 Ulcers
 Gastritis (inflammation of stomach walls)
 Malnutrition
CONT……..
 High blood pressure, heart disease, stroke,
liver disease, and digestive problems.
 Cancer of the breast, mouth, throat,
esophagus, liver, and colon.
 Mental health problems, including depression
and anxiety.
 Social problems, including lost productivity,
family problems, and unemployment.
Alcohol Destroys Lives
The path of alcohol in the body
1. Mouth: alcohol enters the body.
2. Stomach: some alcohol gets into the
bloodstream in the stomach, but most goes
on to the small intestine.
3. Small Intestine: alcohol enters the
bloodstream through the walls of the small
intestine.
4. Heart: pumps alcohol throughout the body.
5. Brain: alcohol reaches the brain.
6. Liver: alcohol is oxidized by the liver at a
rate of about 0.5 oz per hour.
How alcohol can effect you
 Factors that influence how alcohol will
affect a person include:
 age
 gender
 physical condition
 amount of food eaten
 other drugs or medicines taken
Effects on the body
 In medium doses, alcohol can produce:
 slurred speech
 drowsiness
 altered emotions
 In high doses, alcohol can produce:
 vomiting
 breathing difficulties
 unconsciousness
 coma
 DEATH
Addicted?
 Chronic drinking can lead to
dependence and addiction to alcohol
 Withdrawal symptoms include shaking
(tremors), sleep problems, and nausea.
 More severe withdrawal symptoms
include hallucinations and even
seizures.
Effects On the Body
 Central Nervous System
 Accelerates the loss of brain cells,
contributing to cognitive deficits.
Chronic use can lead to brain
damage.
 Liver
 Long-term excessive drinking can
cause hepatitis (inflammation and
destruction of liver cells) and cirrhosis
(scarring and shrinkage of the liver).
Effects On the Body
 Kidneys
 Impairs their ability to regulate the
volume and composition of fluid and
electrolytes in the body.
 Heart
 Chronic, heavy alcohol use increases
the risk of heart disease.
 Alcohol use can also worsen high
blood pressure and diabetes, two risk
factors for heart disease.

Statistics
 16,885 alcohol-related fatalities in 2005 – 39
percent of the total traffic fatalities for the
year.
 Nationwide in 2005, alcohol was present in
24 percent of the drivers involved in fatal
crashes.
 The 16,885 fatalities represent one alcohol-
related fatality every 31 minutes.
 ≈ 254,000 injured in crashes where alcohol
was present — an average of one person
injured ≈ every 2 minutes
Why You Should Not Use!
http://www.studentstakingaction.org/hot/index.php

overcome.

for,“Who has known the
mind of the Lord so as to
instruct him?”[a]
But we have the mind
of Christ.

have made known to you
 CONT……..

 1 Corinthians 5:11, 13 "But now I have written
unto you not to keep company, if any man
that is called a brother be a fornicator, or
covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a
drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one,
no, not to eat... therefore put away from
among yourselves that wicked person.“
 Proverbs 23:31-32 "Look not thou upon the
wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour
in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the
last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like

 Romans 14:21, "It is good neither to eat
flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any
