2. What is Distance Learning
Distance learning is a way of learning remotely without being in regular
face-to-face contact with a teacher in the classroom.The flexibility of
distance learning makes it a popular, appealing option: you can study at
your own pace, fitting your studies around your life.

Allows children to bridge geographic regions together:
1.Children can experience a culture they may never travel to – no
commuting!
2. With webcams, podcasts, and other forms of long-distance
communication and education, children can be physically
involved in learning about different cultures.

stereotypes, and experience similarities between themselves and
children of other cultures

5. Instructional Communication Functions
Inform - The idea of informing within an organization is to
provide data and information so that employees can
effectively complete their job.
Persuade - It is the ability to change the attitude or behavior
of employees, vendors, clients, etc. The three parts of
persuasion are source credibility, emotional appeal, and
social and ego needs. In general, persuasion is used in an
organizational environment effectively when the source of
the information is a trusted figure.

6. Broadcast Radio
This a distribution of audio and video content or other messages
to a dispersed audience via any electronic mass communication
medium, but typically one using the electromagnetic spectrum
(radio waves) in a one to many model.

7. Audio Teleconference
Audio Teleconferencing is a telephone conferencing service
that allows multiple participants to be connected together
seamlessly over a teleconferencing bridge. Traditional
telephone access for the teleconference call is done by
dialing a toll-free or direct dial in conference call phone
number.

9. Audiographic Teleconference
Teleconferencing which allows participants to share and
interact through graphics, figures and printed text.
Is considered an alternative to traditional educational
programming and can be accomplish through various methods.
Audio-graphics teleconferencing is a combination of two separate
delivery systems audio conferencing and a personal computer.

10. Distance Learning Issues
Advantages:
Children can discuss their culture first hand. Ask questions and get them answered by
a peer from different region.
Multiple ways of communicating: videos, podcasts, and webcams
Children can hear the correct way to pronounce a word and understand what a word
means.

The use of technology in distance learning courses unifies students in different
locations and of different cultures.
Improvements in Internet accessibility mean that greater numbers of students can
participate in distance-learning classrooms.
Students have the opportunity to collaborate with others around the world. They can
share their cultures in ways that would be impossible otherwise.

12. Distance Learning Issues
Disadvantages:
Need to plan for time zone differences, may be difficult to set up a set time to talk
Must have a computer and internet connection
