3. The highly reproductive shoot which is responsible for the production of fruits
and seeds is called flower’
• Calyx (Sepals)
• Corolla(Petals)
• Androecium (Stamens)
• Gynoecium (carpels)

4. Symmetry of flower
• Actinomorphic: The flower which can be cut into 2 equal halves by any plane e.g
Poppy
• Zygomorphic: The flower which can be cut into 2 equal halves by only one plane
e.g Ocimum

5. General descriptive term of flower
• Bracteates: Bract is present
• Ebracteates: Bract is not present
• Pedicilate: Pedicle is present
• Sessile: Pedicle is absent
• Complete: Both calyx and corolla are present
• Perfect Flower: bisexual flower having both stamens and carpels
• Imperfect flower: A unisexual flower either stamens or carpel is
absent

6. • Staminate: only stamens are present
• Pistillate: only carpels are present
• Monoecious :If staminate and Pistillate flowers occur on the
same plant e.g castor oil
• Dioecious: If staminate and Pistillate flowers occur on the
different plants e.g date palm
• Polygamous: If plant bears staminate, Pistillate and
hermaphrodite flowers e.g mango
