The document summarizes the results of a survey about music video preferences. It found that the target audience is 15-18 year olds who watch music videos mostly on YouTube via their phones. They see the artist as the most important part of a music video and prefer videos with multiple locations but without a narrative. This information allows the surveyor to tailor their music video to attract the target audience.
2. • Judging from the results of my
first question, it is safe to say
that out of the majority of
people that I asked, they
identified with the age range:
’15-18’. This can be seen as
good due to the fact that my
target audience for my music
video is around the same age
range. However, this can also
be bad due to the fact that only
18.18% identified as 18+ but
nobody said they were between
the age range of ‘11-15’. This
means that I didn’t obtain data
from a wide age range.
QUESTION 1 – HOW OLD ARE YOU?
3. QUESTION 2 – MALE OR FEMALE?
• For my survey, I intended to
have a balanced ratio of males
to females. (1:1) However,
judging from the results, there
were more males that took part
in the survey than females.
This can be see through the
percentages (males: 54.55% /
females:45.45%) Although, this
isn’t a massive difference.
4. QUESTION 3 – HOW OFTEN DO YOU WATCH MUSIC
VIDEOS?
• I asked this question intending
to understand the significance
of music videos on every day
life. Judging from the results,
approximately 9.09% of the
people asked watch music
videos 1-2 times a week,
36.36% watch them 3-4 times
a week and 54.55% watch
them 5-6 times a week. Thus,
this tells me that out of the
individuals asked, the majority
of them watch music videos
multiple times a week. This
shows me that music videos
are, perhaps, an important
instrument to a song.
5. QUESTION 4 – WHERE DO YOU WATCH MUSIC VIDEOS?
• For this question, the results
collected confirm that the
majority of people asked use
YouTube only to watch their
music videos. (90.91%) and
only a few used Vevo. (9.09%)
Therefore, this demonstrates
to me that for my target
audience, YouTube is the main
platform they will watch music
videos on daily. This piece of
data allows me to tailor my
music video perfectly for my
audience.
6. QUESTION 5 – WHAT PLATFORM DO YOU USE TO
WATCH MUSIC VIDEOS?
• For this question, the
information collected
(that most people watch
music videos on their
phone) allowed me to
understand the
significance of
technology on music
videos. The majority of
people watched it on their
phones and only a small
amount watched it on
their laptop. However,
none of the individuals
asked watched music
videos on the TV.
7. QUESTION 6 – IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE MOST
AND THE LEAST IMPORTANT PART OF A MUSIC VIDEO?
• For this question, due to different
preferences, there is no one right
answer. However, judging from
the results, the majority of people
though that the artist was the
most important feature of a music
video and the supporting cast was
the least important. Therefore,
this tells me that for my music
video, I need to make it clear who
is the main artist(s) and the
supporting cast. This information
tells me that to my target
audience, there a certain bits of a
music video that they value.
8. QUESTION 7 – SHOULD A MUSIC VIDEO HAVE MULTIPLE
LOCATIONS?
• For this question, it
required a very simplistic
response. Although I could
have branched out and
questioned why it was
important/or not, I decided
to still keep it simplistic
instead. Judging from the
results, the majority of
people I questioned
preferred to have a music
video with multiple
locations.
9. QUESTION 8 – DO YOU PREFER MUSIC VIDEOS TO
HAVE A NARRATIVE?
• Judging from the data,
approximately 54.55%
said that they preferred
when a music video
didn’t have a narrative
and 45.45% said that
they preferred when it
did. With the
information collected
from this data, it allows
me to shape my music
video in a way that
attracts the right
audience.
