• Doing five simple actions on a regular basis can improve
our mental wellbeing. The "Five Ways to Wellbeing" can
help us maintain a healthy balance in our day to day
progress.
• Connect...with the people around you
• With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. At home, work, school or in
your local community.
• Be active... exercising makes you feel good
• Discover a physical activity you enjoy; one that suits your level of mobility and
fitness.
• Take notice... be curious
• Catch sight of the beautiful. Remark on the unusual. Notice the changing
seasons. Savour the moment, whether you are on a train, eating lunch or
talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling.
Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.
• Keep learning... set a challenge you will enjoy achieving
• Learning new things will make you more confident, as well as being fun to do.
• Sign up for a class – you could learn a language, do something creative or
even take a formal education class such as English or history.
• Give... look out, as well as in
• Seeing yourself, and your happiness, linked to the wider community can be
incredibly rewarding and will create connections with the people around you.
SOCIAL NETWORKING (wikipedia)
A social network is a social structure made up of a set of actors (such as individuals or organizations) and the dyadic ties between
these actors. The social network perspective provides a clear way of analysing the structure of whole social entities. The study of
these structures uses social network analysis to identify local and global patterns, locate influential entities, and examine network
dynamics. Aiding the use of asset based development within whole communities and promoting the positive aspects of growth
within those communities. A social network is a theoretical construct useful in the social sciences to study relationships between
individuals, groups, organizations, or even entire societies (social units). The term is used to describe a social structure
determined by such interactions. The ties through which any given social unit connects represent the convergence of the various
social contacts of that unit.
• Dyadic level: A dyad is a social relationship between two individuals. Network research on dyads may concentrate
on structure of the relationship (e.g. multiplexity, strength), social equality, and tendencies toward reciprocity/mutuality.
• Triadic level: Add one individual to a dyad, and you have a triad. Research at this level may concentrate on factors such
as balance and transitivity, as well as social equality and tendencies toward reciprocity/mutuality.
• Actor level: The smallest unit of analysis in a social network is an individual in their social setting, i.e., an "actor" or "ego".
Eg: network analysis focuses on network characteristics such as size, relationship strength, density, centrality, prestige and
roles such as isolates, liaisons, and bridges, Such analyses, are most commonly used in the fields of psychology or social
psychology, ethnographic kinship analysis or other genealogical studies of relationships between individuals.
• Subset level: Subset levels of network research problems begin at the micro-level, but may crossover into the meso-level of
analysis. Subset level research may focus on distance and reachability, cliques, cohesive subgroups, or other group
action, group actions or behaviour].
SOCIAL MEDIA AS A POSITIVE ASPECT IN COMMUNITY
DEVELOPEMENT
Formal organisations or social groups that distribute tasks for
a collective goal, information gathering and dispersing
UNITY AND UNIFORMITY
• The study of social networks has led to new
sampling methods for estimating and
reaching populations that are hard to
enumerate, for example, homeless people,
intravenous substance users, abstinent based
individuals or groups.
• These studies give a more complex
understanding to the needs and wants of
those specific groups of individuals and these
end results are based on the findings of each
groups interactions on the networks.
• Social networks can be a platform for debate,
surveys, and collating any formal or informal
information needed to promote unity and
uniformity within specific groups that make
up our communities. There is no limit to the
power of social networking. However,
continuing action in the real world is a must
to achieve the results and make a difference.
DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE FOLLOWING?
IF YOU ARE A LEADER MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHAT
YOUR END GAME IS?
IF YOU ARE A FOLLOWER MAKE SURE YOU KNOW ALL THE FACTS BEFORE
EMBARKING ON A JOURNEY?

JUSTIFIED AND FIRMLY BASED IN REALITY.
EVIDENCE BASED, RESEARCHED AND

Editor's Notes

  1. A social networking service is an online platform that enhances the ability to build positive social networks and social relations between individuals who share a common interest. It enables an environment where information, activities and progress can be shared as a foundation for implementing action within communities of like-minded people.
  2. There are 5 recognised ways to wellbeing that have been proven to enhance an individuals quality of recovery. The first being ‘connect’ This is the one that I am going to focus on today. One element of social capital is feeling connected both virtually and more importantly in reality. Action must always follow.
  3. Positive connection is the one that I am going to focus on today. One element of social capital is feeling connected in any way shape or form that effectively takes you ‘out of your mind’ but it is imperative that you find a balance between virtual reality and reality and always keep yourself active.
  4. Dyadic ties focus on the relationships between two individuals or entities, i.e: harm reduction and abstinent based recovery. Looking at their values within the community and how they can work together. Triadic would effectively be a threesome, i.e: where you may possibly have an overseer who regulates and collates information ensuring social equality and balance. In effect a mediator. Actor level looks at the individual or specific group and how they operate within their community, research around this might look at the prestige, strength and reach or scope of that group or individual. Subset level looks at the level of interaction and depth and weight behind a specific movement and the momentum behind that.
  5. Social media can be an asset to any movement in it’s capability to bring diversity and understanding to otherwise geographically challenged groups who are all trying to achieve the same goals
  6. Unity amidst the current chaos is key to effecting positive change, and a social platform where ideas, best practice and discussions around ways of moving forward in a uniformed and unified way is an excellent starting block on which to base your campaign in your drive to advocate for a unified voice rather than a singular opinion.
  7. The power of social media can also be abused as with any other form of networking. If you are putting a message out on the network, make sure it is one that will stand it’s ground and is well researched and evidence based. Know your end game and always be aware that you’re words may carry more power than you think. Be true to yourself and those that you are trying to reach out to.
  8. Once your word is out there on the network it can not be taken back and you may be put in a position where you have to stand by those words. Always make sure that if you are a part of a movement that your words support the collective goal. If you have a different opinion around some of the things that are being said there are ways of dealing with those issues in a less public manner so as not to divide the movement that you are in other ways advocating for. This would be detrimental to both yourself and those who you are working alongside to achieve change.
  9. MAKE YOUR WORDS COUNT. SAY WHAT YOU MEAN….MEAN WHAT YOU SAY….DON’T SAY IT MEAN!!!!
