Editor's Notes
Sadly stigma has in it’s many insidious forms become part of everyday language and in many cases ‘acceptable’ but there is always someone somewhere who struggles to accept themselves never mind the ignorance of others. Common decency when addressing others costs nothing, but on the flipside of that the power of our words and actions can kill!!
Historically Stigma, such as a yellow cross in religion, or similar mark, was used to mark out a specific group or individual, discrimination followed such treatment to reinforce the initial shaming and demonisation of that same group or individual.
The effects of stigma and discrimination reach far deep and can cause so much damage, isolation, destruction of all positivity in an individual, less chance of accessing support when needed, which could result in devaluation, depravation, degeneration and eventuallly death.
