2. ❖ This is the establishing shot, here we see where the music video is taking place. These
shots are montaged together, there is quite fast paced editing - giving us an overview of
their relationship, showing us multiple scenes within it - matching the lyrics and beat
regularly. We are shown a few establishing shots, which gives us as the audience a
sense of location. The camera pans around to follow the car, follow the action, and this is
then when the camera is then flipped inside the car - and we meet the characters.
Throughout there is only non-diegetic sound, apart from the performance element.
3. ❖ This tells us about the character, taken at a point of view shot as if we were sitting in the
back seat. It does also look like a slight over the shoulder shot, giving us a real close-
ness to the characters, and a real sense of what it would be like to road trip with them.
The camera is hand-held as it’s slightly shaky - giving us a very personal feel. Also could
link to feeling like a ‘home movie’, as if someones filming them for a keepsake. She is
also seen to be filming of taking photos, emphasising they like to capture these
moments. Also with the guitar and the old fashioned camera gives the video quite a indie
feel.
4. ❖ This overview shot shows cars speeding down a
highway. Which then cuts to a action match of their car
from a different angle, the shot of these cars are very
fast, whereas the shot inside the car is very slow. This
could link to the pair being in a bubble of their own.
5. ❖ This shot tells us about the character, they like to capture
moments. The camera angle of this shot also gives us a point of
view perspective of what it would be like to sit in the back seat of
the car. We also see a close-up of her rings, a sign of
commitment. These shots are jump cutting between performance
and action within the scene.
6. ❖ This is a close-up of the artist doing performance, the video is
made up of a mixture of performance and narrative. He’s singing
next to a fallen tree, perhaps representing that he has fallen. The
tree looks like it’s dying and lost it’s life - perhaps he feels without
he is lost, much like the surrounding deserted area.
7. ❖ This shot represents them as a couple and their close-ness. The
camera is at a tracking angle with a slight hand held affect- as if
we are following them on their journey. This idea could also think
with the fact they are walking over a train tracks - trains also
represent going forth on a journey - linking to the fact of them
crossing a journey.
8. ❖ This shot is a wide long shot, showing the two of them. It
shows their closeness, and walking down the
journey/path as previously mentioned.
9. ❖ This close-up of the two of them. It really represents their
connection, and you can see how happy they are.
Having the camera pan in, emphasises their smiles and
emotions.
10. ❖ This shot shows the two of them together, again representing how
close they are. Towards the end of the video, the shots dissolve
in-between different shots, some overlapping, overall the video
begins to slow down which emphasises everything. He looks up
here, perhaps representing he is unsure of what’s going to happen
next.
11. ❖ This shot is a good example of layered shots. It has a duvet cover
underneath, with a map over the top. The wrinkles in his hand,
linking with the lines on the map, giving both a double meaning.
Ending with another interception of performance of the artist, with
slow pans across the floor - dried up dirt - loss of feeling and life, as
stated earlier perhaps linking to him feeling lost without her.
