10.) Resident Evil Analysis
This opening scene reveals a city
centre at night. It is from birds eye
view in order to show the people as
being small and inconvenient.
T
This blurred image of a city, shows bright lights
and advertisements which implies that the city or
destination is quite technological. The street light
is flashing red showing the chaos and how busy it
is. The low angle is trying to make the buildings
look bigger and overwhelming.
This shot of the busy street is dull and depressing due to
the dar filter used. There is one lady in the middle who isn't
wearing an umbrella, she is getting wet and this draws
attention to her. The other peoples faces are not shown and
they are seen as being inconvenient to her. The bright
flashes of colour from the umbrellas, break up the dark non-
diabetic music in the background.
The lady is wearing bright red high heel shoes, they
are very provocative and make her look important. Her
tight match the zebra crossing on the road. This
resembles how this lady may be of importance and
may have control over the other people without them
knowing.
As the camera pans upwards, we see more
and more of the unknown woman. Her stance
makes her look stern and that she is powerful
and strong. The legs of the other people in the
background make her stand out and look
different. Just like the birds eye view.
The fonts of the names are all in silver and sharped edged
writing. This resembles the feel of the sequence. We can
see that it is a gothic horror simply by the clothes and the
music being played. The woman is wearing a dark black
leather coat which is another connotation for gothic horror.
Her skin is pale and soaked. This implies that she may not
be human and instead something more mythological.
The shot of the anonymous lady is from the
distance and is an over the shoulder shot form
the perspective of the pedestrians. She looks
depressed and is looking down. This creates
suspicion and make her look evil, which links
back to the little ‘resident evil’.
This is the first image we see of the lady’s face.We can see
that this is set in Asia due to the actors and characters. Her
hair is wet and her skin is pale. We can only see part of her
face so that it remains anonymous to the audience. The shot
is taken from a high angle looking down at her. This is how
she is seen by the civilians around her, if she is even noticed.
When she turns around we can see she has got very little completion
which is a contrasts to the abstract clothe she is wearing. Her eyes are
weak snd she looks tired. She is in the centre of the camera and the
other people are blurred out. It looks as if she is looking or searching
for something or someone. He unusual behaviour doe snot attract any
attention and people carrying on walking, implying this may be
expected. Or not out of the norm.
This clip shows an man looking at the woman
from her perspective. This is the first sign of
someone noticing her. This causes the
audience to become suspicious as to why he
is looking at her.
The music immediately changes to something more sinister and darker.
Her mouths widens to reveal fangs and she pounces on the man. He
screams and blood squirts everywhere. We finally see that she is
vampire or creature of some sort, revealing an answer to the normal
behaviour. The shot turns into birds eye view again and slowly zooms
out revealing people running away from the scene.
Slowly an area of the city turns into
darkness. A blackout can be assumed. The
area becomes bigger and bigger spreading
out across the city. It resembles an illness
spreading or ‘evil’. The music turns into a
drone and become louder as it zooms out.
