Film Trailer Analysis
Form
I am analysing the film trailer for the world wide hit movie Slumdog
Millionaire, a 2-hour movie, which its trailer lasts 2 minutes, 5 seconds.
Purpose
The purpose of the video is to sell the movie, which is about an 18-year-
old orphan, who is on the verge of winning 20 million rupees on India’s
version of ‘‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’’. The main bits are
to advertise the film; to show the highlights of the film that will show the
film’s possibleviewers & crucially say when it will be released in
cinema’s around the world. Due to the successof the trailer & the actual
film, around the world it grossed a staggering $378 million (£232.5
million).
Content
There are extensive camera shots within the trailer showing every
aspectof the film & it’s main parts to it. Medium & close-up shots are
mostly used. The editing within the trailer is very impressive as not only
the best bits are shown but those highlights begin to tell the story of
what’s behind the movie; in this case a young man who is about to
change his life.
The music within the trailer is apart of one of the bestsoundtracks within
any film in history and I agree with every word. The music flows brilliantly
with the trailer and sets the scene for what is going to happen in the
movie. CGI’s are extensive with the graphics of the game show, showing
the movie info & reviews & titles standing out.
The narrative fits in very well within the trailer; right from the off as the
story is told through what’s shown which is simply: A young man who’s
had so many bad points in his life who’s about to experience his greatest
moment yet; in the mostdramatic way possible.
Meaning
The trailer is conveying a feelgood movie that’s captures the heart of
many of the audience. It appeals to the audience is the nature of the
storyline is to show something quite brilliant that hasn’t happened yet is
about to occur and the trailer shows multiple things that
suggest important things about the movie. Those include the constant
scenes of celebration, the sights of the few sad parts & the police
arresting him just before the final question.

Genre
The final film included everything on the trailer & did portray what was
amongst the finished product. The genre of the film is comedy-drama.
Intended Audience
The target audience for the movie is adults aged 25-34 and those who
are within the socio-economicgrouping C1/C2.The C1/C2 grouping are
people who are within very skilled jobs, who earn a good salary
throughout their careers and who have worked their way into a
professionaljob role.
Both genders are targeted audiences as the film intends to show each
gendertake on the major roles, instead of either males or females
dominating a particular job.
As well as this, fans of Danny Boyle-Slumdog’sDirectormake up a large
group of the audience, thanks to his presence creating the movie.
Finally, as the film is based in India, the majority of the country have
been to the big screento see it-the film’s country of origin having a big
audience is important for possiblesuccess.
