Analysing a Promo
Form
I am analysinga promo for the event, the Mad Hatters Tea Party that
lasts 5 Minutes, and 9 seconds.
Purpose
The purposeof the video is to highlight and promote the charity
behind the eventthat took place on July 14th 2008atBirmingham’s
Botanical Gardens; Imyself was in attendancewith my primary
school (Fort RoyalCommunity Primary School, Worcester)& had
recorded footage of myself in the video. 1000 DVD’sof the footage
were sent to local companieswho may have had an interest of
investingin the eventfor futureyears.
Content
The promo filmed included interviewsof peoplein attendance, in-
depth footage of the day’s events& showed what the eventis all
about. I was lucky enoughto be oneof the children to been of
interviewed!
The camera shots were extensive & came from a number of different
angles includingclose-up, medium & pointof view (POV) shots. All
angles were used hugely within the video.
Also within the promo, shots werealways dissolvingfrom one bit of
footage to the next to make the intended impact on the audience.
The mise-en-sceneis heavily used within the promo. The set (being a
major tourist attraction in Birmingham)wasbright & airy; this is due
to the colour’s being worn by everyonein attendance. Also, the props
were actual playingequipment that wechildren were using
throughout the footage. Finally, the lighting was helped dueto the
good weather on the day & not only created, but completed the
objective of allowing the kidsto have a good time.
Meaning
The meaningis raising awarenessof Mad Hatters who puton the
eventevery year & similar eventsthroughout each year & shows the
excitement that the children were going through. It also shows that
the eventis for most of the children in the video the only bit of
respite they may have throughout their childhood; and sadly, but in
this case possibly the whole of their life.

Genre
This is an emotionalvideo but has hints of an educationaluse.
Audience
The target audiencefor the promo is aged 25-34 and thosewho are
within the socio-economic grouping A & B. The groupingsof these
peopleare those who have the best possible jobs and a lot money
behind them; those jobs come in many administrativeposts.
The gender target is both genders - the reason for this is to attract
peoplewho may wantto donateto the charity by seeing the
emotional side to the promo. Videoslike this will attract business
peoplewho are willing to help for such a good cause
It also sendsa message to the audiencethat helpingout would be
massively thanked for.
