2. WHAT IS HUMAN HEART
?
• The heart is a fist-sized organ
that pumps blood throughout
your body. It's the primary organ
of your circulatory system. Your
heart contains four main sections
(chambers) made of muscle and
powered by electrical impulses.
Your brain and nervous system
direct your heart's function.
3. WEIGHT OF HUMAN HEART ?
• Overall, their heart weights ranged from 188 to 575
g with an average of 331 g and an SD of 56.7 g.
Regression analysis was performed to assess the
relationship between heart weight and body weight,
body length, and body mass index and found
insufficient associations to enable predictability.
4. FUNCTIONS OF HUMAN
HEART
• It pumps blood throughout your body,
controls your heart rate and maintains
blood pressure. Your heart is a bit like a
house. It has walls, rooms, doors,
plumbing and an electrical system. All the
parts of your heart work together to keep
blood flowing and send nutrients to your
other organs.
6. PULMONARY VEINS
• The veins do the opposite job of
pulmonary arteries and collects the
oxygenated blood and carry it from the
lungs back to the heart. The veins merge
into larger veins. Each lung has two
pulmonary veins that deliver blood to the
heart's top left chamber or atrium.
7. AORTA
• The aorta is the main artery
that carries blood away from
your heart to the rest of your
body. The blood leaves the
heart through the aortic valve.
Then it travels through the
aorta, making a cane-shaped
curve that allows other major
arteries to deliver oxygen-rich
blood to the brain, muscles and
other cells.
8. HEART DISEASE
• Heart disease is the leading
cause of death in the
United States. The term
“heart disease” refers to
several types of heart
conditions. In the United
States, the most common
type of heart disease is
coronary artery disease
(CAD), which can lead to
heart attack.
9. WHAT IS HEART ATTACK ?
• A heart attack occurs when an
artery that sends blood and
oxygen to the heart is blocked.
Fatty, cholesterol-containing
deposits build up over time,
forming plaques in the heart's
arteries. If a plaque ruptures, a
blood clot can form. The clot
can block arteries, causing a
heart attack.
10. VALVES
• The four heart valves, which
keep blood flowing in the
right direction, are
the mitral, tricuspid,
pulmonary and aortic
valves. Each valve has flaps
(leaflets) that open and close
once per heartbeat.
