NORTHWEST AIRLINES/DELTA AIRLINES, Minneapolis, MN
Senior System Engineer 2005 – Present
Involved in various-sized projects including ordering new circuit, router(s), switch(s), DNS (Domain Name
Server) and installations. Work closely with cabling vendors to ensure critical deadlines are met. Troubleshoot
airline-cabling issues. Taken on Infoblox (DNS) within my group – working with Atlanta counterparts on
training, setting up of our DHCP scopes for each network.
Became Network Lead on DR (Disaster Recovery) tests held twice a year. Totally rebuild Main
Data Center into a smaller development area in backup data center. Recover all Teir 1 applications –
the test runs from 6:00 AM to finishing point. (DR tests are done on Saturday’s). Isolate the
test/development router in F from the rest of the network. Reconfigure our 6509 Test/Development
router to look like the routers in the main data center and all the switches connected to it. Liaison
between the groups involved in the test and our Network. Ensuring smooth running.
Work closely with our Telecommunication vendors, AT&T, Verizon, Century Link and Level 3.
Design our WAN connections in the various Airports (globally). Traveled to various airports for
2. installations of new connections and equipment. Router Configurations, Circuit Provisioning, Cable
provisioning. Documentation of Network layouts in the airports, Monitoring of the Network
Equipment. Replacing faulty equipment. Working with the different Airports on troubleshooting
issues and new connections, making sure the work was done accurately – as to not take any flight
delays. Under Northwest, very involved in their Disaster Recovery – setting it up and working the
DR Tests; DNS experience; business analyst functions, as well.
Assisted in the PCI project (Payment Card Industry). Make transaction are secure technically
for all of customer’s personal information. Worked in building the PCI Island; given a very short
timeframe in which to complete. Worked with our security group, server groups to get everything
installed and secure without isolating ourselves from troubleshooting if necessary. Received a Team
Excellence Award for this project.
Contributions at Northwest/Delta
Developed an install process for servers entering two data centers. Restructured the Cargo
Station during Bankruptcy. Merged the Cargo office during airline consolidation. Moved Cargo
locations from one vendor to another. Included ordering in new circuit and equipment as well as set
up – usually within a short deadline. Requirements varied by location. (Received praise, cash bonus
and Spot Award.)
Collaborated to design and build Delta’s new Server Island in the Data Centres. Swapped out
old Cisco 1900 series switches with a newer model in the Minneapolis (MSP) campus.
