United States in the mid- 1960s. Optical Art
(or Op Art, as it is more well- known) is a style
that combines color and abstract patterns to
create an impression of movement on the
pictures surface by means of powerful optical
effects and illusions. Optical illusion is an
illusion caused by the visual system and
characterized by a visual percept that appears
to differ from reality.

6. Artists use shapes, colors (usually black
and white), and patterns in special ways to
create images that looks as if they are
moving. In traditional paintings, the aim was
to draw the viewer into the work. In contrast,
Op Art pictures seem to move, vibrate or
both, and reach out to the viewer.
