Pinsent Masons – Sept 2014 – April 2015 During my gap year I spent 8 months on
an internship at Pinsent Masons. I was part of the commercial property department,
helping with daily administration tasks and shadowing lawyers involved in various
deals. This experience broadened my understanding and interest in a career in
commercial law.
August 2013 – Walker Morris work experience
I spent a week shadowing various lawyers at Walker Morris. I found my experience in
both the corporate and intellectual property departments particularly interesting.
August 2012 – Mini Pupillage – No. 6 (now Park Square Barristers Leeds)
During this summer I spent a week shadowing a criminal barrister. I attended court
throughout the week following a rape case.
Non Legal
PwC Talent Academy – April 2016
Education and Awards
Work Experience
2. I spent 3 days attending the PwC Talent Academy. This was a good opportunity to
learn more about the business world from a financial, as opposed to a legal,
perspective.
Yorkshire Party Company – Throughout the last 3 years I have worked as a
temporary waitress for the Yorkshire Party Company. I have worked at a wide range
of events from intimate dinners for 12 to weddings for 100 and events for 400
people at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Extra Curricular
Leadership
Head of School Ampleforth College – this role involved daily liaison with the
headmaster and senior management team along with leading the 21 school prefects.
During the year I represented the school externally on numerous occasions and
hosted many events, for example lectures by MPs and Business leaders. In addition, I
organised the higher education conference for the 6th
form.
Sport
University- I play for the Durham University Lacrosse 3rd
team and was voted most
valued player for the year, in which we won both the BUCS northern cup and 3rd
team league.
North of England and Yorkshire
In 2013 I captained the U19 Yorkshire lacrosse team and went on to play for the U19
North of England team in the nationals that year.
School Whilst at school I captained the First Hockey team as well as playing lacrosse
and Tennis at first team level.
Charity work
Gap year
During my gap year I spent 5 weeks volunteering on a remote island in Fiji. I taught
children various subjects and introduced a sports programme to their school. I was
privileged to be able to live with a host family which allowed me to fully embrace
their culture. The experience took me far out of my comfort zone and I learnt a great
deal about working alongside those I didn’t know well and with whom
communication was limited.
Duck Charity – At Durham University I was a member of the DUCK charity events
team. This involved working with a team of 8 to organise large fundraising events
such as Balls.
Teaching – Leeds
Whilst working at Pinsent Masons I took part in their corporate responsibility
programme in which I tutored maths to year 7 students at a local school.
Half Marathon - During my gap year I trained for and ran a half marathon in support
of epilepsy research, raising over £3,000.
Friendship Holiday - I helped to organise and run a week’s holiday for disabled
children alongside a group of 6th
formers. Together we raised £10,000 to fund the
holiday and then acted as their full time carers for the residential week.
