Personal Statement
I have a wealth of experience working with and for a wide variety of sectors and organisations. I
have achieved highly successful results, both personally and as part of a team, in
designing and delivering a wide array of projects, events and programmes in the
spheres of personal, group and community development. An understanding and the
promotion of equalities and human rights issues have been an important and common
thread throughout. I am highly regarded for my professionalism, capacity to engage
meaningfully, competence and conscientiousness. I am a fast learner, am passionate
about and dedicated to the causes I believe in, and relish new challenges.

April 2001 to Present: Humanist Society Scotland Registered Humanist Celebrant /
Officiant
Conducting a range of life rites ceremonies, I was one of the first twelve in Scotland to have
been authorised by the Registrar General to legally conduct Weddings in summer 2005. To
date I have composed and conducted well over 1000 ceremonies including baby naming and
welcomes, weddings, reaffirmation of vows, funerals and memorials.

An annual pilgrimage for the most enjoyable festival work managing an 850 people capacity

Covering the period of full time secondment of the University Chaplain to the Commonwealth
Games Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee, responsible for maintaining the Inter faith
programme of religious observance, and maintaining and promoting positive interfaith relations;
for participation, as agreed with the Chaplain, in ceremonial events and Chapel Services; for
providing appropriate pastoral care to students and staff; and have involvement in the
University’s Crisis Response team.

2012 to Present: Chair of the Board, Urban Roots
Urban Roots is a community led organisation working across the Southside of Glasgow. We
are committed to working with local people on projects that improve the
environment and health of the area through a range of activities including
community gardening, conservation and biodiversity, and planet friendly living. Our
work aims to inspire people and communities to connect with nature, and take
practical action that tackles the root causes of climate change.
2011 to Present: Co-Director, Stanmore Social Ltd
Stanmore Social is a not-for-profit, community organisation set up in May 2011 by neighbours
Mandy Evans Ewing and Jenny Kumar to facilitate a street party for residents of Stanmore
Road in September 2011. We also subsequently organised and promoted other community
events that engage the residents of Stanmore Road and the wider Mount Florida area and
have established a community garden on an area of unused neglected land. We believe it’s
worthwhile and valuable to foster good relations, enhance community spirit and increase
community cohesion amongst the residents of Stanmore Road and the wider Mount Florida
area. We want to facilitate residents in getting to know each other better, having fun and
learning new skills from each other. We think it’s important to make the effort to encourage a
