CROSSROADS SCHOOL HAS REMOVED BARRIERS FOR ALL STUDENTS SO THAT PARTICIPATION IN ALL AREAS
OF THE SCHOOL IS POSSIBLE.
7. CLASSESSTUDENTS AT CROSSROAD MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL BE PLACED IN CLASSROOMS BY RANDOM SELECTION EXCEPT FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION SELF-
CONTAINED CLASSROOMS. SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE INSTRUCTION IN GENERAL ED CLASSROOMS WILL BE INCLUDED DURING ALL
INSTRUCTION ACCORDING TO ARD COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS. ACCOMMODATIONSWILL BE MADE FOR EVERY STUDENT. AT CROSSROADS
MIDDLE SCHOOL WE BELIEVE IN SMALL CLASS SIZES. THE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS IN EACH CLASSROOM WILL NOT EXCEED 20. EACH CLASSROOM WILL

STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE SHORT WHOLE GROUP INSTRUCTION IN THE FORM OF MINI-LESSONS, INTRODUCTION OF NEW
CONCEPTS, INTRODUCTION OF NEW STRATEGIES AND RE-GROUP TIME TO MAKE SURE ALL STUDENTS UNDERSTAND
WHAT IS EXPECTED DURING THE SMALL-GROUP LESSONS.
9. CLASSES: SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION
STUDENTS IN SMALL GROUPS MAY BE GROUPED BY ABILITY, RANDOM GROUPS, OR ONE STRONG STUDENT
WITH A COUPLE OF STRUGGLING STUDENTS DEPENDING ON THE LESSON.

• AT CROSSROADS WE BELIEVE SMALL CLASS SIZES AND LOW STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO CONTRIBUTE
TO A BARRIER FREE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
• EACH CLASSROOM WILL HAVE A TEACHER AND ONE PARA PER 20 STUDENTS DEPENDENT ON ARD
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE STUDENTS IN THAT CLASSROOM.
• SOME CLASSROOMS WILL HAVE A TEACHER, CO-TEACHER AND ONE PARA PER 20 STUDENTS DEPENDENT
ON THE ARD COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE STUDENTS IN THAT CLASSROOM.
• EACH ACADEMIC TEAM WILL ALSO HAVE A PARAPROFESSIONAL TO SHARE THAT COMPLETES CLERICAL
TASKS, COPYING, PREPARING MATERIALS ETC….

• ALL TEACHERS AND STAFF WILL BE TRAINED IN UDL PRACTICES.
• ALL TEACHERS AND PARAS WILL DETERMINE WHAT BARRIERS EACH STUDENT HAS AND FIND WAYS TO
OVERCOME THOSE BARRIERS.
• PARAPROFESSIONALS WILL BE IN EACH CLASSROOM AS SUPPORT TO THE TEACHER DURING SMALL-
GROUP INSTRUCTION OR TO MONITOR DURING INDEPENDENT LEARNING ROTATIONS.
13. PERSONNEL: SELF-CONTAINED
CLASSROOMS
• THERE WILL BE ONE TEACHER AND 2 OR 3 PARAPROFESSIONALS DEPENDENT UPON THE NUMBER OF
STUDENTS.
• ALL WHOLE GROUP AND SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES WILL BE MONITORED OR SUPERVISED BY A TEACHER
OR PARAPROFESSIONAL.
14. INSTRUCTION
• THE TEACHER WILL BEGIN BY READING THE FULL INDIVIDUAL EVALUATIONS AND IEP OF EACH SPECIAL
EDUCATION STUDENT TO DETERMINE WHAT STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES THE STUDENT HAS.
• THE TEACHER WILL COMPLETE THE FORM 2C CURRICULUM BARRIERS ON PAGE 188 TO HELP ANALYZE THE
POTENTIAL BARRIERS IN THE CURRICULUM MATERIALS AND METHODS THAT WILL BE USED FOR EVERY
STUDENT.
• THE TEACHER WILL MEET WITH EACH STUDENT TO FIND WAYS THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO COMPLETE

• AT CROSSROADS SCHOOL ALL STUDENTS WILL BE PRE-ASSESSED TO DETERMINE GAPS IN LEARNING AS
WELL AS WHAT PRIOR KNOWLEDGE STUDENTS HAVE. STUDENTS WILL ALSO TAKE OCCASIONAL CHECKS
OR BENCHMARKS ON ALL UNITS IN ALL SUBJECTS. ASSESSMENTS CAN BE TAKEN ORALLY, DIGITALLY,
WRITING, OR THROUGH ASSESSMENT TOOLS LIKE KAHOOT. TEACHERS WILL DETERMINE WHAT
BARRIERS STUDENT HAVE WHEN TESTING AND WHAT METHOD OF TESTING BEST WORKS FOR EACH
CHILD. STUDENTS WILL ALSO TAKE A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT AT THE END OF EACH 6 WEEKS. TEST
SCORES WILL HELP DETERMINE HOW THE STUDENT IS MEETING HIS/HER GOALS. ALL STUDENTS WILL
PARTICIPATE IN STATE STAAR, STAAR ALT 2 ASSESSMENTS.
