The document provides an overview of the 726.6MW combined cycle power plant (CCPP) located in Tripura, India. The plant uses natural gas to power two gas turbines that generate electricity and utilize the waste heat to create steam to power a steam turbine, producing a total output of 726.6MW. It discusses the key components and processes, including the gas booster compressor, heat recovery steam generator, steam turbine, condenser, and cooling towers. The plant supplies power to the North Eastern Grid through a 400kV transmission line and is jointly owned and operated through a public-private partnership.

2. About OTPC Plant:
The power project is located near village Palatana in Gomati
district, Tripura.
Owned by OTPC (ONGC Tripura Power Corporation Ltd).
Being designed, erected and commissioned by BHEL (Bharat
Heavy Electricals Ltd).
Operation and Maintenance of the plant is under SOIPL (Sogex
Oman India Pvt. Ltd.).
The output power of the plant is 2 X 363.3 =726.6MW in total
from two Units #1 & #2
3. It is a Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP).
It has both a Gas Turbine fired by natural gas coupled to
generator producing 232.3MW, and a Heat Recovery Steam
Generator (HRSG) utilizing the waste heat of gas turbine to
run Steam Turbine coupled to alternator producing another
131MW.
Extra 131MW generated being totally free of cost.
4. Operational Overview:
Natural gas supplied by ONGC acts as a fuel whose pressure is
increased in Gas Booster Compressor(GBC) to turn the Gas
Turbine which drives the Alternator.
The heat is recovered from exhaust gas of Gas Turbine is utilised by
HRSG (Heat Recovery steam Generator) to make steam of water in
boilers.
This steam is used to turn the Tripple Pressure Steam Turbine
which drives another Alternator.
5. Then the exhaust steam is fed to the Condenser
To cool this hot water in Condenser, it is fed to the Cooling
Towers.
This cool water is then again cycled back to boiler.
This cycle continues till the plant runs.

6. Electrical Specifications:
The Generation Voltage is 15.75KV which is stepped up to 400KV .
The power evacuation is done by 400 KV Double Circuit AC transmission
line from Palatana (generation project site) to 400KV receiving substation
of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) at Bongaigaon in Assam
over a distance of 660 Km.
There are two Switchyards:
400KV switchyard consisting of two main buses and supplying the 400KV
double ckt T. L. to power the North Eastern Grid .
7. 132KV switchyard has two buses, for withdrawing & supplying power from
state grid .
There is also an inter connection between these two switchyards by
400/132KVInterConnecting Transformer (ICT)
A distributed control system (DCS) is used for controlling whole operations of
the plant-
Speedtronic Mark VI Control system is being used for controlling the G.E
made Gas Turbines
The Steam Turbine is being controlled by MaxDNA DCS.
9. Conclusion:
oIt is fully based on ONGC’s gas supply.
oOTPC (ONGC Tripura Power Company) is a joint venture
company promoted by GoT(Govt. Of Tripura), Infrastructure
Leasing & Financial Services Ltd.(IL&FS) and Oil and Natural
Gas Corporation (ONGC)
oThe project supplies “clean & eco-friendly” power to the national
transmission grid.
