2. Process
• Firstly I chose a font and a color that matched the sea (blue).
After I had a masthead that I was happy with I started to
experiment with it. I used the arc tool and put a slight arc into
it, this is good because it looks more professionally done as
some magazines in my research had an arc in. After the arc I
started to experiment with the opacity, brightness and
contrast. I lowered all three of these things. Then I decided to
put the title behind the fish for the more professional feel to it.
• When I was done with the masthead I decided to change the
hue of the main photo. I did this to change the color of the fins,
on the fish and to make the man have more of a tan. Even
though it is a small detail it could mean a lot because it would
not look as realistic. I know this is good because I saw it in my
research, where professional magazines use it. For this picture
the man had a really white tan and he was in the middle of the
sea, which is normally a sunny, he did not look like he was
supposed to be there so I added a hue to the picture. The fish
also looks better with its orange fins.
• In the back ground I added a sun to blend in with the man
having a tan, the brightness of the image and, the environment
in the background. After I had finished the sun I noticed that
the sea was looking plain for a magazine; in my research I
noticed that most of the professional magazines are crowded.
So I added a dolphin with water coming off it. I did not have
time to blend the water in with the actual sea as it is only an
experiment but I have an idea of what it would look like. It
looks great because it lures in fishers because it looks like this
was a really fun and successful fishing trip.
3. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I will include the idea of putting an image over the
mast head because, it makes it look really
professional. Most of the bigger magazines do this
so they can emphasise the main image more.
– I will also make my final product really crowded.
Instead of making things blend in with the
environment I will make sub titles and images to
emphasise the main story more.
