7. Feeding Breeders
•Hens and Cocks should receive a breeder diet 2 weeks before eggs are saved. •Feed should not be more than 2 weeks old!! •Consider using a vitamin supplement in the water. •Feed should be protected from rain.
8. Water –the Most Important Nutrient
•Have water tested for colliforms
•Keep well properly sealed and keep hazardous materials away from well head
•Clean and disinfect water containers daily
•Flush water lines and disinfect regularly
10. Brooding
•Temperature –keep chicks comfortable
•Temperature range 85 to 100oF at start
•Preheat brooder & adjust temperature
•Quail and chukarsneed more heat than pheasants or waterfowl
•Cool room vs. warm room brooding
