3. - Children getting distracted during story time
Classroom management strategies:
- Give clear and concise instructions.
- Use songs they already know to make them calm down and settle
in.
- Be positive and congratulate good behavior, by saying for example:
“Very good xxx!”. This makes other children imitate good attitude.
- Ask questions to the children who get distracted during the
activities.
- Tell the students who finish very quickly to read a book in silence,
in the place near the bookshelf.
- Use body and face gestures to engage them with what´s going on.
Assessment: collecting information and reporting your findings
- Walk around asking questions
- Observe the children working
- Check if the children use the new vocabulary correctly
Lesson stages:
Routine
- Purpose: to make the children settle down and
- Timing: 5 minutes
- Activity description and instructions as they will be said to students:
1. “Everybody let’s make a circle, let’s make a circle, let’s make a circle;
everybody let’s make a circle, one, two, three, four five…”
2. Sing “Hello to everyone, and how are you today? Welcome to our circle
time to sing and laugh and play. And when you are up, you are up, and
when you are down you are down, and when you are half way up you are
neither up nor down. So, roll your hands so slowly, roll them up so fast,
give a little clap clap clap, and cross them on your lap lap lap lap”, same
as in lesson 1.
3. I´m going to ask 3 or 4 children “how are you feeling today?”. They are
going to answer in both L1 and L2, according to what they need to say
and if they know how to say it in L2 or not. I will roll the tennis ball to
mark whose turn is it to talk (they already know how this works).
- Transition comment: Now we are going to make two trains in silence, to go
to the screen classroom. Here the teacher is going to take them to the screen
4. room, since we are no authorized to move the children from one place to
another.
Lead-in
- Purpose: to continue working with the children some new vocabulary
related to shapes through an interesting and engaging context: a video with
a song.
- Timing: 15 minutes
- Activity description and instructions as they will be said to students:
1. Sing a song to make them settle down. When they are ready and in
silence, I will tell them: “okay! Now we are going to watch two short
videos, if you want you can sing”.
2. Watch the videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03pyY9C2Pm8
5. 3. We are going rewind the videos in some parts and ask the children
“what´s this?” and point to different shapes in the screen to see if they
can already identify them.
- Scaffolding strategies:
a. I´m going to ask the children: “which is this shape?” and they are
expected to answer, for example, “a circle!”.
b. I´m also going to ask questions like: “how many circles can you see
here?”, “what color are these circles?” “
- Transition comment: Now we are going to go to the classroom to continue
working! Here the teacher takes them back to the classroom because we are
not authorized to move the children from one place to another.
Presentation
- Purpose: explain the children what they must do.
- Timing: 5 minutes
- Activity description and instructions as they will be said to students:
1. Now you have to go to your places on the desks because we are going to
work with a photocopy.
2. I will stand up in the middle of the classroom and I will say: “If you are
listening to me touch your head, if you are listening to me touch your
nose, if you are listening to me touch your ears, your mouth, and so on…”
3. I will explain what is the activity about and do it so as they have an
example to follow. First, they have to trace all the shapes with black
pencil and then they can color. (the children are learning how to use
their pencil cases so it’s a nice way to practice this)
6. - Scaffolding strategies:
Do the activity in front of them so that they understand how to work, and then
stick it on the board just in case somebody forgets and needs to see it.
- Transition comment: “When you finish you come to my desk to play with
the wooden blocks” (the ones that we used in lesson 1)
Development of the sequence of activities
- Purpose: let the children explore and incorporate the new vocabulary by
tracing the different shapes and by coloring them.
- Timing: 10 minutes
- Activity description and instructions as they will be said to students:
a. I will put peaceful music so that the children relax and concentrate
b. Instructions were said before
Closure
- Purpose: close the activity, clean up and tidy up the classroom.
- Timing: 5 minutes
- Activity description and instructions as they will be said to students:
1. I will sing “K5, PUT AWAY!”
2. To motivate them to clean up and put away i´m also going to sing:
“Congratulations congratulations to PEPITO, because he´s putting,
away… paparaba”. (They already know this song and they love it)
3. Finally they are going to the toilette to wash their hand and get ready yo
7. have their snack.
