2. STEREOTYPES WITHIN THE FILM
• Gender – We only represent the male stereotype within the film, as we have no female
cast. However, the lack of females in the film can be viewed as the archetypal
stereotype that women are delicate and have no place outside in a harsh dirty
environment. There is one main male characters featured within the movie.
• Edd Irving – Edd played the main protagonist within the film (the MotoX rider). He fits
the archetypal male trait showing he is a professional (the full rider kit), unemotional
(the CU of his face), strong (falling off the bike before competing again) and located
outdoors.
3. CHARCTER:
EDD IRVING – MOTOX RIDER
• Costume – Our character had full professional racing attire throughout the film
opening. Our character is a conventional male protagonist that can be found in many
Action Motorsport films; as found in the sub-genre research. The character has many
icons of Motorsport including his helmet and goggles, as well as protective clothing. All

• Locations – The first location used was Copse Tunnel on the Silverstone Circuit. We

4. TECHNICAL ELEMENTS
AND THEIR CONSTRUCTED MEANING
• Camera shot, angle, and movement – The use of an Establishing shot of the
grandstand allowed the audience to instantly connote that the film is about Motorsport.
The use of close ups the riders face is used to show the emotion to the audience and
introduce the main protagonist to the audience. The use of CU on the bike's exhaust
and the starting of it also there to encode the action of the film.
• Sound – The sound of the voice over gives narrative to the film and carries the story
forward. The use of a heartbeat is used to build tension throughout the film. The
Diegetic sound effects, such as heavy breathing and the cheering of the crowd.
• Editing – A slower pace of editing was used on the film, primarily using dissolves
opposed to cuts to emphasise the building of tension as the rider continues down the
tunnel. Softer lightning was used during the flash back to show clear time difference of
the juxtapositional scene.
