Position: Process Operator (International Acetic AcidPlant)
Summary of plant process:
 Crude Acetic Acid and Acetic anhydride are produced from Methyl Acetate by the carbonylation
reaction with Carbon Monoxide Gas and then by Alcoholic’s reaction with Methanol under 50 bar
operating pressure in high pressure reactor. The crude products are purified by distillation under
vacuum in multi distillation tower in continuous operation.
 The plant has a capacity to produce 500 KMT/Year of Glacial acetic acid and 50 KMT/Year of Acetic
anhydride for outside sales.
 Plant is having technology collaboration with EASTMAN, Kingsport, U.S.A.
 Unit operation:
Reaction unit, Catalyst recovery unit and Furnace unit.
 Equipment handled:
 Static:
 Catalyzed back streaming high pressure reactor.
 Distillation towers and strippers (tray and packed bed)
 Shell and tube heat exchangers (Coolers, reboilers, heaters and condensers)

 High pressure centrifugal pump ( Sundyne pump)

 Liquid ring vacuum pumps
 Agitators.

3. Duties and Responsibilities
 Directs and Participates in process Plant Operations. These include but not limited to
attending troubleshoots, logging and plotting operating data, communicate with
DCS Panel Operator about major plants operating parameters particularly when there
is any deviation. Takes part in startup and shutdown activities and performs some
operations-maintenance activities as needed.
 Complies with safety,health, environment and security policy through
implementation of Responsible Care requirements.
 Adheres to perform activities based on company approved and updated SOP’s.
 Complies with the rules on timekeeping, attendance and effective use of working
hours. Expectedto report earlier to duty.
 Takes the samples safety and Timelyon his assigned area.
 Ensures complete all unit reading sheets, routine checksand activities on a timely
manner.
 Experienced in the identifying process abnormalities and process hazardous in the
continuous running Plant.
 Major participant in the plant turn around shut down activities and performing the
shutdown activities in well planned manner.
 Prepared the decontamination procedure for equipment for maintenance.
 Well experienced in the safe work permit system.
 Preparation for Hot work Permits and Confined Space Work Permits
 Following LOCK out and TAG out work procedures as per company safety policies.
 Periodically performing the audit inside the plant as per the check list.

reports/document.

manufactures and technical manuals, electrical/instrument and mechanical P&ID”s
and maintenance procedure.
 Extensive experiencedinusing pneumatic, electrical and electronicstesting device to
inspect, calibrate and test process instruments and system operation and diagnosing
faults.
 Perform Calibration/setting of on/off valve, proportionate control valve, including
feedbacksignal in DCS and over hauling of pneumatic actuator in different kind of
valves suchas globe valve, ball valve, butterfly valve, plug valve and others.
