2. Inheritance
This is where the programme comes after a successful show of roughly the
same genre.
The idea is that the audience who have watched the successful show will stay
on that channel and carry on watching the next show.
An example of this is ‘Brit Cops’ comes on after ‘The Force: Essex’ which is a
successful TV show about police in England. This will mean that Brit Cops will
get the right target audience for their programme, as it is also about the
police.
3. Pre echo
This is the opposite to inheritance, as it is where the programme comes
before a successful show of roughly the same genre.
This can be seen from the image below, as ‘My Kitchen Rules UK’ comes
before the very popular show ‘Come Dine With Me’. Both are relevant to each
other as they are programmes about cooking and food, therefore will have
the same target audience.
4. Hammocking
This is where the programme fits itself in between show of roughly the same
genre.
For example, the image below shows a programme called ‘Duck Quacks Don’t
Echo’ between two highly successful TV shows. Both of the programmes
before and after are comedies, this is so that they will attract the right
audience to watch their programme.
